All the connections are fine, im runnin 1 amp with 1 12" sub, but after about 10 min, the sub shuts off. Ill go and check out the amp, and its led will be red (instead of green) and its BURNING hot. Not to mention the temp down here in miami was about 100 degrees. If i turn the car off for a while and turn it back on, same thing happens

Could this be why my amp shuts on and off?

Would buying a fan help?

 

what's the rating for the amp and the sub ? Location of the amp? What gauge wire for the amp? and such.....

 

sorry bro, dont kno those specs. BUT i went to one of the more reputable shops here and they suggested the sub that i got, and also suggested me to use an 8gauge amp kit. The amp is a sony xplod 1000 and the sub is a 12" kicker. The amps in the trunk. I can prob take a look at the sticker and see if it gives me any of that info

you probably have the wrong impedance load for the amp. If your sub has dual voice coils and you wire them in parallel, your amp may not be able to work with such a low load. The amp will get hot and trip the thermal or short circuit protection.

What guage wire are you using?

 

8awg on a 1000 is not enough.

Also, how is it mounted? Vertically? Horizontally? In an enclosed space?

 

Also, make sure that the gain is not turned all the way up and depending where you have it mounted i.e. if it's on the floor board or under a seat it will usually run much hotter.
