Garmin Streetpilot vs Magellan Roadmate

I purchased a G35x without the navigation system and now I would like to purchase an aftermarket unit. I am considering the Garmin Streetpilot 2610 or the Magellan Raodmate 500/700. Does anybody have any tips or recomendations? Even any additional suggestions.

Thanks

I have the 2610 and am very happy with it. It fits in the cubby nicely. Here's a pic of accuview's 2610 setup.

not4another - what pda is that? I use my palm pilot enough, and I want a navigation system, so it might make more sense if I go with a better pda that includes navigation.

I have Toshiba e740. It has intel x-scale 400mhz CPU, but the PDA has a lot of hardware problems. However, I have no problem with using as just navigation.

Does the GPS antenna work thru the cubby cover or do you have an external antenna?

Re: Garmin Streetpilot vs Magellan Roadmate

I don't have an external antenna. Built in antenna works fine over the cubby cover on mine.

Hard Wiring

I was looking into running power by tapping into the cigarette lighters wire from behind. Has anyone done this?

Thanks

I use the magellan roadmate 700 (i think) it's the one with the built in hard drive and had no problems with the unit. Very easy to use.

Re: Garmin Streetpilot vs Magellan Roadmate

I saw the pic of the 2610 above, and was wondering a couple things concerning either nav system:

1) does the cover have to stay up all the time, or is it possible to stow the unit away and close the cover when not in use?

2) is it possible to power the unit without taking up either the passenger side or center console power supply?

First post, and I bought my G35 back in June, so everything's new to me.

Re: Garmin Streetpilot vs Magellan Roadmate

the best PDA/NAV combo is the Garmin iQue 3600, i had this unit for a year before i switched to a real car nav/entertainment system (now i have a pioneer avic-n1 nav system)
The garmin was a great great unit, garmin is known to have the very best in mapping software, it used palm OS 5.1 and high color high resolution screen (very crisp res) check it out, NAV/GPS is built-in with the built-in antenna - gets great reception
