Mixing old speakers with new

So I've got a set of Infinity Kappas that I bought about 3 years ago for the front. I'd like to put a component set in the rear as well. How important is it to match speakers. I can get a new set of Kappas, but they are of new design. Does it really matter?

Don't even bother putting components in the rear. Coaxials work just fine for rear fill. Some people don't even use rear speakers at all.

what exactly is a component coaxial??? there are coaxials and then components...you have components where you can mount the tweeter over the woofer but those are still components since there is a crossover

Here's a new question, how far is to far between a tweeter and a midrange when working with components. The G coupe seems right on the imaginary edge.

In theory you're supposed to keep the tweeter within 1" of the center of the woofer for the most accurate sound BUT realistically most people put the tweeters in the stock locations.

If you're really fanatical about sound what you'll need to do is buy a deck with time alignment capabilities and a 4 channel amp and run the tweeters actively. But there's a lot more to it than just that.
