I had this problem in my S2000 cause the buttons for volume on the left of the steering wheel didn't work anymore. I thought about making it so I could use them on this car but I don't think I'm going to. It didn't bother me that much.

However if you're crazy about your screen being really clean then maybe you should consider it. I'm not sure if there are buttons for volume adjusting on this particular model but if you have to touch the screen for it, it might get dirty more often.

All you need to do is buy a $50 module the make the steering controls work. Installation usually runs ~$45 if you go to any good stereo installer.

I always feel that alpine is lacking something in their units...which is why the avic-z series would always be my choice over alpine units.

Im an audio noob here, so bear with me but what is the N872A and the H701 and the new imprint? Are these supplemental Alpine pieces to their double din units? Any clarification would help. Thanks again guys

I have this unit installed in my G and it's great. Did the installation myself. I had bought the JDM dash kit, the Pac for steering wheel control and the Pac for video bypass a few months ago saving them for the unit to be released because I knew the W505 was the HU I wanted. I'm very pleased with the sound and control. I even have two ipod connection, one is with the USB which I can play my videos (in top glove box) and the other is throught FullSpeed cable coming from the arm rest. So far the only complant I have is when I'm playing the iPod through the USB, which is the only way the album art cover show up on the screen, the album cover look blurry. Needs to be sharper, I haven't found a way to fix this. Read on another board of other with the same problem. But besides that I love it and it was worth the wait.

Awesome!!!

I was looking at the W205, now I can look forward to this. I'm assuming that it will still support the H701 external processor with the in-dash interface?

The N872A is the external nav system.
The H701 is the last gen EQ.

Alpine stuff is never really bang for buck. The extra boxes and components needed vs the competition is hard to justify. In my opinion the Alpine interfaces have always been a bit easier to learn and use.

They have made some really dumb decisions in the past and will probably continue to do so, but I'm an Alpine headunit fanboy. H701 control through the HU is nice, the external display allowing for 1 touch switching between eq presets is nice to check if the changes made are actually any better.

I finally got the clock trim piece out......(the whole pinching thing that everyone does i guess didnt work on my car) ....... The metal clips were like bent open so it wouldn't come out....but after using 2 putty knife scrappers wrapped in cloth i went it from each side and pried it out

but now after removing all the bolts (1 by clock and 2 down by shifter at the bottom of the clock)

i have a 2004 with bose...have all the bolts removed but cant seem to get access to the wiring harnesses and get it to come loose

should i remove the lower panel and side panels also ??? where the 12v power sources are??? and the glove box???

I dont know what else its stuck on.....i got the bolt on by the clock and the 2 at the bottom.....it seems to wiggle but its still stuck in there

I'm pretty sure I had to remove both sides which requires removing the driver and passenger lower console panels as well.

W505 is pretty cool. Gui is nicer than past, while still being simple and easy to use. Don't really like the new control interface for the H701 but it's liveable.
