electronical problem?

so i bought a 2003 g35 sedan, and a few days after the purchase i noticed a problem.

when i turn on the ignition, the air/ac kicks in and the whole climate control/radio tuner area is innactive which means i can't turn the air/ac off or even lower it!

i've had the car for about a 10 days and this has happened 3 times, not much, but enough to get really annoyed. so has anyone ever had this issue w/ thier car or can tell me what i can do, if anything?

It's a common problem with all year models, but there is a voluntary recall campaign for some 03's that fall within a certain VIN range. If yours is covered, the dealer should replace it under the recall. Check out the recalls and TSBs at www.infinitihelp.com.

thanks!! i found out through the website you gave me that it WAS one of the recalls for the 03 sedan. Now do i bring it to ANY infiniti dealer? what's the chances of them actually fixing it though, never had to take a car in for recall.

VOLUNTARY SERVICE CAMPAIGN 2003 INFINITI G35 SEDAN; AUDIO FINISHER CIRCUIT BOARD
On some model year 2003 G35 Sedans manufactured through August 21, 2002, the audio and temperature controls may not operate as expected. When using the audio equipment or the temperature controls, the unit may become inoperative. In some cases, this can be corrected by turning the ignition switch off and back on again. In other cases, the unit remains inoperative and requires service by an Infiniti technician. To prevent this condition, Infiniti has initiated a Voluntary Service Campaign to replace the audio finisher circuit board on these vehicles. Use Infiniti Net to confirm if a specific vehicle is affected by this service campaign (P3104).

Take it to the dealer and see what they say. They should do it for free and if they don't, insist that they do.

I'm having this same exact problem(happened today for the first time), but I didn't purchase my vehicle at an Infiniti dealer(I'm actually a dealer and bought the vehicle at an auction).

This might be a stupid question, but will they still correct the problem if my vehicle falls under the recall list even though I didn't purchase the car at an Infiniti dealer?

Any warranty or recall transfers to subsequent owners regardless of where or how the vehicle was bought. If your car falls within the VIN range, the dealership should replace it under the voluntary service campaign. The campaign was initiated by Nissan.

Thanks for the quick response.

Would you happen to know if this applies to Coupes as well? I've had an 03 coupe for about a month and a half now and, like I said, it happened for the first time today.

I spoke to infiniti, and this certain electronical problem is not a "recall" but a "bulletin"... they claim that "bulletins" are merely to notify us that there could be an issue but they will not repair it like that would a recall. so most likely you would have to pay for the service.

for now i can live w/ it since it only happens once awhile but i can see it getting annoying in the winter; driving in the cold and the a/c kicks in

Did you happen to find out how much it costs to repair?

the problems been getting worse! so i've called a few infiniti dealers around my area and its going to cost at least $700 and at most $1300 (this was from the lowest quote)...

they tell me they normally change out the radio finisher first ($700) if that doesn't fix the problem which sometimes it does, then they will then change out the circuit board (another $600).

either way, its going to be lots of $$$

This seems to be a common problem. It just started happening with my '03 a week or 2 ago. Intermittent, but stayed dead for 3 days before. The steering wheel controls will still work on the head unit, and the AC turns on at what ever you last set the temp at.

No guarantee that it won't happen again as it looks like a poor design. They should replace the board first and if that doesn't work, will replace the head unit which is known to also have problems.

I found that it's actually less expensive to do an aftermarket double din unit.

My Pioneer FH-P8000BT is on its way!

I've had my 2003.5 G sedan for a few years now, definately out of warranty, last year some time the speedo guage cluster went crazy rpms didnt work and speedo needle was fluttering...wierd, luckly went away after a few miles of driving and never came back. Today on my way to work the AC kicked on and stereo turned off quickly after no buttons work on dash or steering wheel, tried turn off turn on power to car no luck. This is definately a BS problem as there is obviously deffective equipment in the car. I hope this doest not relate to any safety issues as my inspection is due by the end of the month. I have not tried the roadside flashers button yet or the cruise controll (that could get kind of hairy). Any one else with experience on this here?
