hey guys I was shopping around today for a subwoofer setup for the G. I want something with a small footprint so I will still have most of my space for my luggage, golf clubs, etc. I had one quote from Mobile 1 ($1212) for 2 boston acoustics 10" with the box, dynomat, rockford amp, wiring, and install.

This seemed crazy expensive. I went to best buy and they offered me 1 rockford 12" (400w rms) with the box, a rockford amp, wiring and install for about $600 (no dynomat, which I don't know is necessary since I can not see anything that might rattle.)

What do you guys suggest or have that is nice. I want a nice system and am willing to pay for it. I do not have a preference for rockford just that is what people keep trying to sell me. I originally was looking towards JL or Kicker.

Suggestions?

 

get a JL10W6v2 or 10W3v2 and get a 4080 enclosure to save space an a JL 500/1.. it'll run you more $$ but best sound quality

 

i paid $520 installed for a JL10W3v2 and some Boss 1000watt peak amp and a ported box.. it's pretty large, but sounds good, so I sacrificed my trunk.. you can mix brands of subs w/ a different brand of amp if you weren't planning on it, it's a good option and doesn't really matter

 

I was looking into the 4080 enclosure but they don't make one for my car yet. or at least they didn't yet. They were still working with the g37 enclosure. Ultimately that is what I would really like, so maybe I should just wait.

 

do yourself a favor and don't ever buy any kind of sound system from best buy. the thing about these companies is that they will never carry high-end audio equipment. i'm a pretty big fan of rockford, but you won't see any of the power series at best buy...only the cheap punch series. go to a custom audio shop, where the installers aren't a bunch of high school kids working on your nice ride

I'm trading my 13w7 for 2 12W3V2's later on tonight...I may only use 1 12W3V2 if you're interested.

Also, whenever you see the RMS numbers make sure you see what ohm impedance they are rated at...400rms at 1 ohm is very different from 400rms at 4ohm. even when mixing and matching subs and amps please do the math, so you won't blow your amp or sub.

my opinion, go with quality like boston, jl, diamond, or even eclipse

 

good point, I didn't look at the impedance. I totally forgot. V=IR lol, I may be interested in that sub if you are local, and it is a competitive price. Houston?

JL Audio 10W3's

I have two W3's with a JL 500/1 Amp and with my bass set to (-5), and Fade set to (Front 4) and my rear-view mirror will completely be facing down after 2 hits.

 

That looks great! Takes up a bit more room than I would want but I could deal with it. Probably a bit overkill for my interests as well, but it is def. a beautiful setup and I am sure it hits hard! haha

edit: also do you have any trouble with rattles? Since the license plate is on the bumper I figured it should be fine

 

Where did you get that enclosure? how much was it? i like how it puts everything out of the way

boston makes quality subs. i ran my boston g212 for about 2 years before i blew it. good quality bass that isnt overwhelming.

i replaced it with a jl 12w3 that im still running with a boston amp.

mobil 1 price sounds a little pricey. should be a couple $100 less.

 

my trunk rattles.. i dont hear the license plate.. this is only if i turn it up past half way though... i cant hear the rattles inside the car anyways so it doesn't bother me =]
