Has anyone done a headrest install on your own? Or has the install at a dealer? Need info and suggestions.

Ok, that install was for a coupe. I want to do a DIY install in my sedan... Any worries with the so-called active headrests?

Can I just start cutting the skin of the rests as needed without hitting anything? And what about running the wires through the seat itself? Should I have any worries?

dude, you need to ask Trentacinque, he did that all himself. I'm sure its nearly the same on the sedans.

active headrests have nothing to do with technology...basically if God forbid you get in an accident..it somehow moves forward or backward with the momentum of the car to help prevent whiplash..no electrical components or anything to mess up.

As stated above the active headrest will not hinder your installation. They're pretty much a joke. I thought it was some high-speed system to save your life. It's actually a small bar that connects the headrest posts horizontally (across your shoulder blades). When you get rear-ended your bodyweight pushes on this bar and the headrests move about .5-1".

Bottom line, CUT AWAY!

Adding Video to the headrest is as straight forward as it seems. There is really nothing in there to worry about nor in the seat itself running the wires. here is, all-be-it bad quality of picture, of work I just completed on my sedan. enjoy...I know I am!

After reading these replies last night, I successfully installed two 5.6" LCDs in my Sedan.... Yes, I did it myself, and I couldn't be happier with the results.

Thanx IKSardarG! As soon as I read your reply, I felt idiotic! Congrats on the install, Any pic's?

 

I have done this install myself. One issue is the slope of the headrest back. If you want kids to be able to watch, you need to somehow create a down angle. I chose to use Accelevision tilt monitors. Unfortunately, the headrest support bars prevent mounting these as deep as you would want, so you need to add some upholstry stuffing around the monitors (under the vinyl) to fill the gap. As already mentioned, you may as well ignore the active hear restraint nonsense......no airbag type explosive charges or other issues here at all. My kids LOVE this install. I also installed a DVD player in the armrest, and temporary mountings for the Xbox and PS2. One failing of the single ceiling mount LCD that this solves, is media choice; each kid can watch (or play) a different thing. We drove from NY to FL without a single "Are we there yet???" Hey RacerX: Love your install. i was thinking of putting my DVD player in the first-aid kit slot, but decided to go with the upper glove bov with some modifications. I have a question for you, how did you get the seperate buttons to control the TV's? They turn them on and off I presume? Did you just run the power line through a switch? Here are a few more pic's of what I have done...
