Sat install on 2003.5+ G35

For all of you with a 2003.5 that want satellite radio to work through the factory head unit, here is a link to a sight which has the Nissan part #'s listed (it is a clarion product) for the factory satellite system. There is also a link here for the installation document. It's a 275k PDF.

Re: Sat install on 2003.5+ G35

I'd be more interested at this point in an aftermarket box that plugs into the N-Bus socket for the SAT radio and provides an aux port via RCA jacks or similar. I'd like to mount the RCA jacks in the little passenger "cigarette holder" cubby. Then I wouldn't need satellite radio, I'd just need a good MP3 player.

I am with you. I bought a 20gig iPod (the PC version). It fits perfectly in the little tray in the center console of the sedan. I use the cassette adapter and run the wire underneath the lip of the center console to mostly hide it. With the power plugin in the center console box, everything is pretty much hidden except for the iPod remote, which is pretty small. But I would much rather be able to plug it in directly and get rid of some of that tape hiss.

One thing that may help with tape hiss is to use the headphone jack instead of the line-out jack on your player, and turn the volume to about half, more or less. Basically, send out a signal that's a little louder than the line out signal to cover up some of the hiss -- but not too much louder, as you're still feeding it through the car's amp.

You might also look at using an FM transmitter instead of a cassette adapter. Radio Shack sells them. They work pretty well.

I've actually got my eye on the Neuros, with the built-in FM transmitter, 128MB internal memory, and a 20g removable backpack. www.neurosaudio.com

wow.. The Neuros seems very cool.. one thing that turned me off about using a mp3 player like this was the use of the tape-adaptor.. the hiss is just annoying.. this seems to have fixed that problem :>

Well, it gets you up to FM-quality sound. To go beyond that you need some sort of auxilliary port.

I bought a seperate FM modulator to use but it was horrible. Couldn't get any volume out of it at all. You had to manually tune the to the station you want and was 12volt AC powered. Going to try another recommended "brand" device and see how it works.

You had to manually tune the channel the modulator transmits on? Yuck. Usually, they have 2-4 discrete channels they'll transmit on, selected with a simple switch. Then you just store that channel in your car stereo as a preset.

Of course, it also may help, depending on your player, to use the headphone jack instead of the line out jack and then adjust the volume to get a good signal going to the modulator.

My wife's Nomad Jukebox has a lousy line out jack.. always sounds crappy. We have to use the headphone jack at about 1/2 - 2/3rds volume (though this is with a cassette adapter).

Unfortunately, the ipod only has the headphone jack. It actually rates at 98db at the jack which means you can really crank the heck out of it. Apple recommends the iRock brand device. I was just hoping to avoid batteries of any kind...oh well. For anyone that was at the norcal meet on sat- all the tunes that were coming from my car at the lot, were coming from my ipod-

So not even the FM Modulator can give us "cd-quality" sound?? I thaught it would atleast be better than tape quality...

Does anyone konw if there is an aux input on the back of the head unit??

Re: Sat install on 2003.5+ G35

Nope. You get (obviously) FM-quality sound. Which isn't bad, but it's not as good as playing a CD.

As for an Aux port, I think our only chance is to find a way to tie in through the Sat port.

Hmm.. the sat port..

The big dissapointment for me about putting a computer in the car or a mp3 player is the forced use of the tape deck or fm modulator.. I WANT CD QUALITY SOUND!!
