Anyone else thinks rear speakers = just fill?

Anyone else thinks rear speakers = just fill?
I got into an arguement with someone who says that Not spending the coin for rear speakers is stupid since the JL's are such high end. Her words were "35K and a ghetto system) since the fronts are JL XR650Csi Components (high end) and the rears are Eclipse Coaxials. I just personally couldn't justify spending ~200 for them when they are just fill speakers and I never sit back there anyway. Am I really in the wrong? I thought I wasn't.

Thanks guys.. Now I feel better
I wanted decent coaxials for rear doors, nothing spectacular, and nothing cheap either.. these Eclipse look like a nice mix of the two. The JL's in the front are reference quality (well, until the ZR components come out in June, LOL)

You gotta go with what your ears tell you. If you're happy with the sound of high quality fronts and crappy rears, what difference does it make what someone else thinks? I think rear speakers are much more important when you don't have a sub - your fronts need help from somwhere to try and reproduce bass.
Personally I'm running the stock Bose stuff in the rear, with high end components and subwoofers. I see no reason at all to change the rear speakers, they're set to play low so they don't interfere with the sound coming from the front, but still enough sound that people in the back hear something other than the sub.
Now, if I had a DVD/DTS audio system that has programming material engineered to play out more than two channels, I'd definitely be swapping that stuff out.
