Is JDM Double Din possible with OEM Navi

I'm starting to look at a double din head unit, but have OEM navi and haven't seen anyone with Double Din HU with OEM navis. I'm also planning on getting the AVH-P6000DVD for my car since I already have Navi, and wanna retain the 6 disc changer. Can someone inform me if the JDM kit does in fact get rid of the dual climate control. Also does anyone have any info on the AVH-P6000DVD head unit. All input will be appreciated!
thanks guys

When replacing the OEM radio and leaving the OEM navi, you will lose the navi voice from what I have read. You will need the JDM AC controller that you will have to modify to keep the dual climate. You cannot keep the 6 disc changer if you replace the OEM radio. They are one unit.

Sounds like my Alpine w200 and blackbird with the dock when I was running a processor. Audio and video or not together, rather they are split. I had to get a certain module (Alpine KCE-900E in my case) and that solved the problem. It won't work with the G35 though since one of the ends uses an RGB connection. I'm pretty sure there is a way to get audio from the navi when getting an aftermarket HU. I'll see if I can get some info from Bing at Simplicity Sound. One of the forum members here had a system done by him and I'll be seeing him at a car audio meet this Saturday.

Keeping OEM Navi voice is possible when getting an aftermarket HU. I am having Bing install a Pioneer 6800DVD next week and wanted to retain my navi voice. There are several ways to do it. It may be different from setup to setup but I will be running separate amps for my subs and front stage. Bing will use the Bose amp to wire the navi through so it goes through one of the side speakers behind driver seat. This speaker will solely be used for the voice and nothing else. Others have mounted a speaker under the dash on driver side and used that for the voice. Some other ways to power it are to use the stock power from the nav voice but this will reduce output by about half. You can also run a separate amp to power the nav voice, but this will require more work and wiring. Everything have mentioned has come from conversations I have had with Bing as this was something I needed to retain for my system. Hope this helps out some.

Helps me out plenty, going to have to bookmark this thread so I don't forget it. I'd probaby go the same route as you and use the speaker in the rear. Not worth wasting a channel on an amp for a speaker that wont be playing a wide range of frequencies IMO.

With what you are doing, is it still going to have the ability to interrupt the audio and "dim" or fade out the music from the fronstage and substage as the stock does?

Where would the speaker go if you put an extra one next to the driver? I am debating on keeping the voice, but want to retain all the factory speakers.

Also the HU I'm looking at has built in 6 DVD,cd,mp3 changer.

So essentially, the opening at the top of the JDM dash kit will accommodate the navigation screen and controls? I was under the impression that that the navigation and controls required a larger opening than the simple cubby that non navigation cars have...

I dont believe there will be auto fade anymore once you get rid of the old HU. Only the nav will be going through the bose but the new HU will be going through the new amps. It is really not that important to me since the voice from nav gets pretty loud. Just keep your volume lower when you are going to nav destination. It works for me since I will not need any rear speakers. I will just be using 3-ways up front for all my mids and highs.

As for the speaker by the driver, some have mounted it under dash kinda by where your knees are. Its hidden and will still provide nav voice without getting rid of any other speakers. There are many options.

the JDM dash kit will only go up to where the climate control buttons are. this part is the same for all navi and non-navi interiors. the navi controls are where the cubby holes are on the non-navi dash, and will not be affected by putting in the JDM dash kit

It depends on what DD kit you get. If you have nav then get the nav one and if not just get the reg one.

I have the AVH-P6800DVD which is the older model of the 6000DVD. There is almost no difference between the 2 models. The 2 models are selling for about $750 and interface is exactly the same. The unit itself is great if you do not need navi. There are many input options available and having 6 DVD in dash is always an added plus. This unit features 4V output to all channels including subwoofer. Many are happy with this unit. Just shop around for the best deal. Ebay has a ton of them.

My 04 JDM dash kit is the complete piece including the cutout for the OEM navi and contols. Is this not how it is for the 05+ models?

Here is a link to it: http://diymobileaudio.com/forum/show...ewpost&t=42301

Meet will be at the Bella-Terra mall in Huntington Beach. I believe its on the 2nd floor in the parking structure. I'm not too sure myself, I'll be driving around till I find it though. Most people will show up after 11, though it starts at roughly 10 or 10:30 and ends, well sometimes doesn't end till 7, but you don't need to stay that long.

Address is:

7777 Edinger Ave # 133
Huntington Beach, CA 92647

If for any reason something happens and we are asked to leave, we would go to Super Autobachs where the previous meets have been and we will be fine over there. Address to Super Autobachs is:

12645 Beach Blvd
Stanton, CA 90680

Would be nice to have another g35driver member there. sr20det510 will be showing up as will with his IP coupe. I think he has a running system. Seems like it's going to be pretty big, 35 people already
