I never cared for Phoenix Gold. I always loved A/D/S and one of my best set ups ran a pair of PQ-20s, Alpine HU, MQ Quart 3-way in back and two-way with separate tweeters in the front. I think MB Quart was one of the first to start doing that. Ran pair of JL 12s for the Subs in a custom box

My favorite amp was always my PPI PC amp. Those things rock! They probably aren't as efficient as some of the Class D amps out now, but they sound great. In home audio anyway, audio quality really hasn't changed for good equipment for many many years. Ever since the 80s really, good amps & preamps really had staying power.

Speaker tech has been getting better, but I used to have 2 10W3s and they were some of the best subs I had for sure.

Oldschool JL's rock. Heard 3 of them 10w3's in an expedition off maybe 600-800w in an Expedition in high school and they sounded great and got quite loud.

for a minute there i thought you were talking about "old school" JL amps
