Old skool v. new skool amps.

I just picked up one of my all time favorite amps. PPI Pro6800 chrome. Just waiting for it to be delivered.

While I'm waiting for it, I just want to see what you guys thought of old skool vs. new skool amps. I've been out of the audio scene for a few years now and I just don't know what's good anymore. I still see some familar names out there like Phoenix Gold, McIntosh, JL Audio, but are there any others that's used in the competition scene?

I remember in the old days you had PPI, McIntosh, Orion HCCA, Soundstream, Rockford Fosgate Punch (the OLD skool ones), ADS, Kicker, US Amps, etc.

What about today, and are the really good old ones just as good as the really good new ones?

Old school PPI and a/d/s were great amps. I have actually been tempted to hunt down some old a/d/s amps and compare them to my JL and DLS stuff. Still cannot go wrong with Zapco or USAmps IMO.

Nice...my friend sold the two PPI's like that but they weren't chrome. I used to run an RF Punch 500a2, that thing was a BRUTE. I cranked the gains all the way up, bass boost all the way up, and ran it at 1 ohm and I never had any problems. I would say it is the oldest amp I have ran, but boy, I would love to have me some McIntosh amps. I just love how they look. If I had the money though, I wouldn't mind dishing some change on some Sinfoni or Brax amps.

I love the oldschool Orion amps. Straight out cheater amps. Rated at 50w, but put out TONS more power. Not as many amps that are quite as solid as they used to be today, but there's still many out therhe.

Nice OS JL by the way, I just got a NOS 15w6 a couple days ago.

Oldie but goodie... Phoenix Gold ms2250.
A friend of mine ran four JL 10w0s on it in a giant ported monster box.
That system did weird things to you... physically speaking.

Evidently the 12w6 (the original one) is one of the most fantastic all-around subs evar. Too bad you really can't get them in their original form anymore.

As with mine, I believe the coupe 4080 boxes are for 10" while the sedans can do 12"

I still have 2 phoenix Gold MPS 2240 but I'm thinking of going with something D class. To see the Inside of amps http://ampguts.realmofexcursion.com
Last system I had was in my 93 civic coupe. Clarion head, rockford fosgate PA-1 pre amp, audio control epicenter, audio control 2XS X-over, 2 punch 45's connected to boston pro 5.1 front, alpine 2 ways rear and 1 Phoenix Gold MPS 2240 powering 2 JL audio 12W-6.

+a bunch to that!

I had an original first gen 12w6 and I loved that thing. Too bad some homeless dragrat stole it out of my Mustang back in college. I had that with an MTX 2150x. The black and gold one. I loved that amp too. The thing was bulletproof, looked good, and easy to mount. Hmmm. I just may have to hunt for a 2300x to add to the collection.

i remember back in the days you could have a Punch amp that only pushed 50W x 2ch and it could push 2 300w subs real nice and it was super small..

Now you have tio buy this big ol one and not even push the subs that much.....

Man this reminds me of the old days when cars use to take out the back seat and have 2 15" and 4 10" in the rear decks lol

I loved my old Orion HCCA Amps.
My first amp was a Sherwood 240.
Never had a PPI but I loved their look and heard they were great.
