Sat Radio UPDATE
Sat Radio UPDATE
Hi, I am updating board on sat radio install. About three weeks ago I asked Fife Infiniti in WA about sat radio install and how much. They said about 1,000.00. I posted to the board and got good advice to look for other alternatives and even use grubbs. I went back to Fife for oil change and asked again about the Sat Radio. They are pretty new and getting their feet wet. Anyway, today they quoted me at 700.00 installed. I was very pleased and told them to order it.
They are a class outfit and I am very pleased to work with them.
I also have info on Clear Bra installer in this area(same one infiniti uses)
Love my car
Happy to own my G35X

Re: Sat Radio UPDATE
If it is an infiniti dealership, don't let them rip you off the price should be the same at any dealer ship. I paid $520.00, so if I was you I wouldn't let them do it for less than that.
Re: Sat Radio UPDATE
drilltodd,
I presume you are not into DIY things? Because $700 is completely outrageous. And even if it were OK, the dealer is going to install the big ugly antenna on the roof, 'cause that's where their instructions tell them it has to go!

Re: Sat Radio UPDATE
GUILTY as identified, I'm ok with DIY jobs but I would hate to F**k it up as this is now my baby. I am not excited about the antenna on the roof but for high quality sound it is worth a cosmetic hit.
This car with tint, clear bra, and now sat radio is just about perfect for me. I will not mod it and will be completely satisfied.
thanks for your input

Re: Sat Radio UPDATE
i dont understand why they dont just put it inside the windshield??
I have an aftermarket nav system with the GPS antenna inside the windshield, i get full signal from 7 gps satellites at all times!

Re: Sat Radio UPDATE
I agree that Infiniti could do a much better job of integrating the antenna in a way that it would essentially not be seen. That being said, the concept of Sat radio is not nearly as amenable to dropouts as GPS is. With Sat radio, the data rate is considerably higher, and the redundancy is much lower (e.g. number of satellites). When people listen to music, they expect no dropouts - unlike GPS, where frequent dropouts aren't even noticed and don't matter.
Many of us have had great success placing the Sat antenna inside the glass, but a lot of us also live in metro areas where XM has lots of ground repeaters. Even with those, I occasionally get dropouts under certain bridges and on streets with heavy tree cover on the south side.
