G35 Bose System
G35 Bose System
I already posted this in the general g35 coupe section, but I should have posted here, since this is the place for it, my apologies.
I have a 2003 G35 coupe with the all black bose radio. I need to have it replaced, and do not want to pay the dealer 700 to put a refurbished one in. My first question is, is this definitely a bose radio? It says bose on it, but I've read different things about clarion making some radios and bose just being the speakers. I have the all black trim, not the silver, if that differentiates the two. My second questions is, do I need specifically a 2003 radio, or will a 2004 bose radio work. Thanks.
Mine has an SAT button as well.

dave,
I am going to assume that because you say you need another radio for your G, the original one has failed. My first question is - do you (or the dealer) know WHY it failed. If you take a half hour or so and look around this section of the forum, you will read about many, many, many people that have had a lot of issues with their OEM radios. This primarily due to a common, badly-engineered circuit board on the G. Should this be the case for you, I would heartily suggest that you think about replacing the radio (which is a Clarion model I believe, not a Bose one) with an aftermarket double-din unit, along with the dash fascia and climate controls.
Read through this section for a while and let us know if you have more questions or concerns.
Cheers,
Kev

For the last few months, my battery was getting drained. I read up on the problem, and decided to take out the fuse for the radio/ac. Over a month with no battery dying (obviously no radio and ac controls). I put the fuse back in, and the car was dead within a few days. I went to infiniti and told them that the circuit board on the radio was draining my battery, and they told me they needed to run a diagnostic. Today they tell me it's not the circuit board, but rather the radio itself that needs to be replaced, which is supposibly a different issue than the ones many others were having with their radios. They want 700 for a refurbished one, which is ridiculous. I'd replace it with an aftermarket if I have to go that route.
This would be my opinion only, but I'm sure they told you that to A.) avoid you getting into it with them in regards to the whole sh*tty circuit board issue that they know is the real problem but don't want to admit; and B.) get you to waste your money on another one of their sh*tty radios.
Gladly, it sounds like you have the brains not to go that route. Given that situation, you have a lot of research to do in regards to what kind of headunit you want (features, price, make, din size, etc.) fascia pieces; that sort of thing.
This forum is invaluable in not only information about that, but a lot of DIY threads detailing how to go about installing it yourself should you want to do so.
Good luck and have fun!
Cheers,
Kev
