Avic-N1 with SWI-X Possible?

As far as I can tell, the Avic-N1 does not have a wireless remote. It does have a wired remote input. Is there a way to keep the steering wheel controls with the Avic-N1?

Re: Avic-N1 with SWI-X Possible?

u can buy a remote for the AVIC..
there is a package that content the remote and voice control
as a upgrade option

u can also buy any new or second pioneer remote
they will work too

once u have a remote
u can buy a kit that connect to any HU or ur avic
this kit will learn the signal from ur remote
then u can use ur control on ur steering wheel

I have a SWI-X installed, but you have to have an IR port on the front of your HU or it won't work. It's all based on IR signals. If it's wired, it won't work, according to the SWI-X instructions. It's programed with the remote and then even after that, the signal is sent from the IR line off of the SWI-X pointed at the HU. You can't hardwire if from my own experience in installing it.

BamaDog,

Where did you mount the led for the swi-x? I installed mine but have found a good permanent location for the led. I was trying to get away from running the wires to the map light even though that seems like it might be the most hidden location.

Re: Avic-N1 with SWI-X Possible?

I mounted mine up at the map lights and it was actually pretty easy. Doesn't look bad at all. I'll post a pic here, but the complete install, I'll post later. This is the ONLY place that was even feasible to mount unfortunately. I will say that my arm has to be in the middle (relaxed position) for the SWI-X to work well because the signal then bounces off of my arm, to the HU. If my arm isn't there, it doesn't work well at all. I'm going to do one last mod on it when I have time and that's to angle in the IR so it points more forward. Right now, it's flush with the maplight area, so it actually points backwards. But since my arm is always in the middle, I don't usually have a problem using my SW controls though.... here's a sneak peak. You hardly even notice that it's there.

Ignore the bug to the right of the map lights. He's just trying to get airtime.... sheesh.
