Don't get confused with the software. It is NOT v8 or v9. They stopped with the "v" a few year ago. The new version is 2009.

www.gpscity.ca if you live in Canada, one of the largest retailers in Canada. Has the best price in Canada on anything.

It is pretty good. I have been using it for almost a year now and so far no problems. The only annoying thing with it is that the unit does not allow you to bypass some road sections like bridges etc and use other alternative routes from the menu like it is the case with Magellan units. You just have to drive the alternative route for the unit to give up on the initially suggested directions after a while.

Right, that why I have a V8 software on the shelf here.

On the upper right hand side of my MapSource Software screen it says:

City Navigator North America 2009
City Navigator North America V8
City Navigator North America V6

What Canadian said is correct. CityNav software versions used to be v6, v7, v8, etc. but Garmin changed their map naming (with US in 2007, Europe in 2008) to reflect the "year" of the mapping. City Nav North America is currently on CN 2009, which will likely be upgraded to 2010 in March/April. When they switched, Europe went from v9 to 2008, which prompted some people to think they were being "downgraded" because 9 is a higher number than 8.

I manage operations for one the largest Garmin dealers in the world, so I'm going to pray I'm right about this. Canadian's also one of the best guys we have working there, so he's pretty much in-the-know

If you've got any v8 mapping on your shelf, I'd get my money back. About eight months ago. It's not for resale is it?

Just to let you know the 750 does not have bluetooth in it, the next model up 760 did. Also, what you are getting at Costco at that price is a refurbished unit. Not saying that it is a bad, just know what you are paying for. Their return policy is great, so that should be no problem if you have a problem within said return policy. Costco sells a few refurbished items, Ipods for example. If they are a price protected, new in box item, why are they cheaper at Costco? Look in the ads for Circuit and Best Buy, they give you cases and I tunes cards, but never a reduced price for the Ipod. Only if Apple lowers the price protection to sell old units do they come down.

Yes, that's correct, however anything previous to CN 2009 will have a "version" number not a year. Most likely anything you buy other than a very new model will have V8 software in it.
