Stock Navigation

After purchasing the navigation from the dealer, is the service free from then on? Or is there going to be a monthly fee? If you don't to continue the service, what do you lose?

I have an aftermaket NVAI, but i dont think there is a fee for the factory ones, unlike "on star" and others.

Re: Stock Navigation

there is no monthly charge for the factory NAV. Just the $2000 initial investment.

Re: Stock Navigation

The only fee applicable is the cost to update your disc. They come out around November of every year and cost $180, I think. There's no need to get a new one every year though.

Re: Stock Navigation

If you find out who makes your disc, you may be able to get a cheaper update or more frequent updates from that nav company, such as TeleAtlas

But to reconfirm the answer to the original question, No, all GPS/NAV systems are free to use. The radio waves are public and thus Free... actually... it was your tax dollars that paid for it...

Re: Stock Navigation

Not until dual layer DVD writers become common, and only if the stock DVD reader can read them.
