JL Stealth Box Update

JL Stealth Box Update
I checked in this morning and was promptly updated. Here's a quote from the email I received from JL Audio.
For those that missed the previous updates, JL is developing a new 12" sub and box that will sit on the drivers side floor in the trunk, where the Bose amp currently resides. They claimed in other updates that it will cause a slight bump in that area of the trunk, and will face upwards, underneath the mats.
"Good morning Todd,
Still waiting on working prototype woofers. This design really needs a low profile woofer which is in development. Unfortunately these woofers have been delayed in production and are now scheduled for an availability date of October 04. Keep the faith, we're poised and ready to take full advantage as soon as we have working prototypes.
Thanks,
Don Vertrees"

Re: JL Stealth Box Update
The great thing is we all have options. 4080 your box looks so awesome and for less than $500 one ends up with a great option...a portable, pounding box that looks and sounds great.
For, I'm guessing, another $200 we can get a super pounding, non portable box made by a reputable manufacturer with a cutting edge 12" speaker in it that may leave a hump in the trunk (isn't that a rap song?).
Time is on my side as I'm working on performance mods right now anyway, but if I can't wait until October and I want an alternative, the 4080 box (you should name your fine product, bro and market it) will be my first choice.
The 10" will be plenty for me, but my mission is defined with more parameters than that, so my decision isn't so simple. The great thing is that we all have choices and I plan on informing my stereo store of both products.
4080,
One last question I have is when I look for a speaker, it lists a cubic foot range to use. Do speaker manufacturers typically list these as gross or net cubic feet? In other words, is the cubic feet listed including or in addition to the space that the speaker takes up?

Re: JL Stealth Box Update
Speaker manufactuers usually list cuft. specs as net volume. So, internal volume minus the space the woofer takes up. A 10" can take up from .15-.2 cuft. depending on the size. But do not forget polyfill. Inside every JL stealthbox, prefab box, and just about every box there is polyfill. Poly fill increases air space. For every 1cuft. if you put 12oz. of poly fill in that box you will increase air space by .3cuft. So if you are worried about if a box is too small do not forget this fact.
