I suggest you go to a car stereo store, and listen to your OWN music thru various subs/amp combinations

I primarily agree with your sentiments. But I feel the need to add, what sounds good on a sound board ... or even in your neighbor's Camaro, for better or worse, will not sound the same in your G. There's also a great amount of tweaking (especially with an EQ) and other factors (dynamat, speaker placement, de-rattling) that dramatically affects the result.

The doctor is correct. But there's no other way. I do have an EQ, and it has made tweaking my system so much more precise. I think I cmay have been able to "fix" the Bose system with an EQ alone....maybe :-)

Re: 10" Sub and amp

i had 10w6v2 using phoenix gold ti 800.1. My friend let me test out his focal utopia, crap...i think i will get the focal instead. The focal seem to have more punch than the JL. The JL does goes lower but not what i am looking for.

Anyhow, if you don't listen to rap and so forth..focal sub is the way to go.

Re: 10" Sub and amp

I too felt like the models being suggested were a little high cost for most folks. Granted I put just about $2700 in my system, but the fact is, a mid or even low-end sub (stick to the big names though) will sound just fine. I've been using Alpine woofers for years and LOVE them. Everyone that has heard my car has been REALLY IMPRESSED. I was running an Alpine Type-S 10" that was great, but just moved up to a 12" and to a Type-R (handles more power). For just about $100 you can get an Alpine Type-S 10" woofer, dual voice coil and you'll be happy. My box was about .66 cu/ft and it rocks. For more bass, try running (2), and its still only 1.3 cu/ft.

As for amps, I'm again stuck on MTX and Alpine. Cost effective, good looking, GREAT sounding amps. The MTX 311 or 421 will run a 10" GREAT, and a 12" OK. Check these out for $150 or so. GOOD STUFF.

IMO.

I'm jumping on the eDesign bandwagon aswell...
I couldnt pass up the deal Sub amp packages were a steal. I've read and heard only good about their stuff. and I can always buy something else if it isn't what I had hoped it'd be.

Re: 10" Sub and amp

Kicker solo-baric 10 only needs a .6 sq foot box and when powered with Phoenix Gold will be plenty loud. I heard a 12 in a ported box with PG amp and it was louder than my 2 Infinity Perfect 12's with PG amp. These are high quality producs that are normally very high priced, but thanks to eBay you can save hundreds!!!!
