JL Audio 10W6v2 with JL Audio 500/1. If that's too much for you, JL Audio 10W3v2 with JL Audio 250/1.

10w7 off ebay or ID Max. Get a 500/1 off ebay and you're good to go.

Re: 10" Sub and amp

I find it strang that people would respond to what is "best", without any indication of the type of music involved. Is JL better than Elemental Designs or Alpine or Rock Fos for that matter?...depends on the ear of the listener.

No doubt the JL "hits hard", but if it sounds like sh*t to the listener, then it's a waste.

I suggest you go to a car stereo store, and listen to your OWN music thru various subs/amp combinations, and pick the one YOU like the best....anything else is just a crapshoot.(Of course, if you buy something without listening, you may get lucky and be entirely satisfied).

I'm going with an Elemental Designs sub/amp combo for my coupe.

Re: 10" Sub and amp

What price range are we talking?

a) <$350 for both
b) $350 - $500 for both
c) >$500 for both

Everyone mentioned good brands, but the installation is far more important.

The snake is right.

Also, you don't say coupe or sedan, stealth install or big ole trunk box, what other components you have already, what you've heard & liked or disliked (and why), etc.

Not enough info.

Re: 10" Sub and amp

Tagging along w/ this post... I listen to HIP HOP and POP... I have a G35 Coupe, and am looking for CRISPER bass, not necessarily overpowering.. I mean pleasing in the sense that it sounds QUALITY not necessarily loud...

My problem w/ my BOSE audio right now (that came w/ the car) is that the bass sounds DRAGGED or too HOLLOW or rather, like SOFTWARE rendering of BASS in WINDOWS Volume Control.

What would be the most cost effective option w/o compromising sound quality?

Thanks!

Re: 10" Sub and amp

Well, he actually did give an indication of what kind of music he listens to. He want's it to hit hard. Using my superhuman powers of deduction, I can cross off classical, country, and most likely, jazz, etc. He probably likes rap/hip hop or hard rock.

The reason most people recommend JL is because it doesn't sound like sh*t to anyone I know or have read about. Do you know anyone that says the JL line sounds like crap?

JL's hit hard and the sound quality is above reproach. Ask any car audiophile to name the best 3 best SQL (combination of sound pressure level and sound quality) subs out there and I would guarantee that JL will show up more than any other brand.

Hey Cram, what is your experience w/ that combo? I dont' know anything about sound... however, I heard good things about edesignaudio sounding just as good as anything at half the cost...

Why is it cheaper?

Re: 10" Sub and amp

I have to say that I'm taking a flyer here.

I have NO EXPERIENCE with that system, but all I've read about edesigns has been very positive, especially from a SQ point of view (as opposed to SPL). I do have some exp. in designing audio systems in general, and feel comfortable in taking a chance here.

Of course I am choosing to violate the primary rule in selecting audio components... I have not heard them yet.

But I did hear Infinity/RockFos/Kicker/JL/Focal/Alpine/MBQ and others, before making this choice. My fingers are crossed. :-)

What can I say...I'm an audio stuntman. Children, do not try this at home.

Nice! I really don't know what the SQ means or SPL... is there a beginner's guide to SUBWOOFERs that I can check out?

Re: 10" Sub and amp

SQ means sound quality. How accurately does the speaker reproduce the signal.

SPL means Sound pressure level. It's a fancy way of describing how loud something gets in terms of decibels.

There are subs that are great in 1 of the above at the expense of the other. Then there are subs that have both qualities sometimes referred to as (SQL).
