Eclipse 2494/2454
Re: Eclipse 2494/2454
Eclipse is strict on no internet sales, so it's very hard to find their stuff online.

Re: Eclipse 2494/2454
On eBay the 2454 goes for about $1700-$1800 and the 2494 for about $2300. I've seen several of the 2454s there but not too many 2494s.
It's pretty annoying how Eclipse tries to police their resellers. They threaten to buy back the units on eBay, check the serial #s, and then not sell anymore to the distributor that originally bought them.

yeah that is a rediculous policy, oh well... they make less money that way, their own fault

Re: Eclipse 2494/2454
Per my "Authorized" Eclipse Dealer, Eclipse's intention is to already provide the customer with "low, reasonable" prices through authorized dealers rather than flood the market online and through resales. I think my authorized dealer also mentioned Eclipse wants to keep their stuff limited (supply) so that people want it more (demand). I think that was his interpretation....lol
But I also heard Eclipse also INITIALLY had this policy to help with their insurance policies of their ESN individual units. Supposedly, each unit that Eclipse sold was INDIVIDUALLY insured through a third party insurance company, not insured through a group policy.
This is all hearsay of course so don't take my word for it.....
AVN is good b/c it has 2 slots so you don't have to swap nav/cd/dvd discs. I think, though, that the AVN doesn't have as many pixels as the AVX or Alpine IVA-900/901 so the picture quality is not the best. I was surprised to find this out.

Re: Eclipse 2494/2454
I am 1 of 20 people on the Eclipse Product Advisory Board. I AM NOT DEFENDING, BUT JUST EXPLAINING.
By far the biggest reason that Eclipse encourages sales through authorized installing dealers only is to maintain a quality reputation.
Eclipse would love to have the sales of Sony, Kenwood, Pioneer, etc., but they do not. Their product's appeal is high quality and high performance. This only appeals to a small group of people.
In order to keep the high appeal to this small niche, they MUST continue to make sure their reputation stays high. This means that they cannot afford to have anyone unhappy with their product. They want their product installed properly and this is why they give a 3 year warranty on their products when properly installed by an authorized dealer. Just think of the value. On a $2000 product, a 3-year warranty usually runs about $350 dollars.
Eclipse realizes this more and more and this is why they just cut Tweeter off. They now only try to sell through the better specialists.
Because Eclipse is not something everyone comes in asking for all day(like Pioneer, Alpine, Kenwood, etc) and is not the easy sale, Eclipse has to adjust. In order to keep specialists wanting to sell and install their product, they must give them something additional. What they give is good dealer protection which enables Eclipse dealers to make a little more profit than with other lines and in turn want to include Eclipse in their product mix.
Summary: Eclipse needs specialist dealers and dealers need a reason to carry it. Eclipse needs their deserved reputation to stay high so people want to buy their product. In order to achieve this, Eclipse needs to insure that their dealers are quality dealers who can install properly and provide good customer service.
You cannot get the service that Eclipse requires from an internet site. In fact, lots of times there are firmware upgrades and product recalls that the consumer is never aware of. They catch these things before they leave the dealer's shelves, but if the dealer is breaking the rules and sells Eclipse products to an unauthorized reseller for resale(this is called transhipping) the unauthorized dealer is not kept in the loop and in turn the consumer ends up with inferior product and once again, poor customer service.
AGAIN - JUST EXPLAINING
