how was your clearance behind the double din? the F90BT is supposed to be 7" deep, and we supposedly have like 7 1/8 clearance (although I have a '03). You've clearly pushed yours back like 3/8". I have a JVC with the huge removable face and need to redrill my bracket as well.. My depth is only 6 3/4ish. So, if you had no trouble with yours, I should be golden when I do my install next week.

Here's a visual, cuz a pic is worth a thousand words:

This pic is sexyrob's F90.. but his sat flush (nearly flush) like mine and there's just enough room... the harness wiring needs to sorta be re-directed outta the way, but enough room.

You should be golden.

Great thread thanks for all the information. I have a f700bt that I installed that sticks out. I was thinking about using black hot glue to fill in the gaps when I recess it but this seems like a better idea.

Do you know the model number for the scosche double din kit?

Also I think I saw this earlier today on avic411. Do you plan on getting one of those machined ***** for your unit? I got one and it makes it so much easier to use.

I definitely planned on getting the burled stainless steel one .. seems like it'll match (sorta) the temperature ****... i also plan on doing the dual button mod... it took me forever to build up the courage to really yank on that temperature ring, but it finally popped off and now I can access that button ...

Just remember -- with the scosche ring .. take of LESS material and sand it down to size -- it'll take a little bit longer but you'll get the right fit. Then use epoxy or Sumo glue or gorilla glue to secure it .. hot glue may not hold up in the summer heat.

After a little sanding with 1000 grit, clear epoxy and adding small rectangular spacers (outta the excess ABS plastic) to keep the unit flush .. I used a flat black latex paint and finished it off. I have a bit more painting to do to get rid of the "line" at the bottom of the trim ring, but it works much better for me than the other alternatives.
Can you give me more info on where you added the small rectangular spacers to?
also is this the same piece you got?

Looks awesome, I'm going to copy your set-up.

I was thinking about painting that outter trim maybe glossy black to match the Pioneer though.

thanks guys -- too bad I dumped the F-series and had to start all over again with my kenwood 8120, LOL!

The F-series is a piece of dog-cr@#$@ ... i shoulda listened to all those negative posts on avic411.com

Regarding the Trim ring: FullVietFX:

Just take your time, sand a little at a time to get it perfect and yeah, use spray paint to get that high-gloss piano finish. That'll look very nice. I kinda wish that the F90bt (had it worked 100% and i kept it) had the matte black finish of the F700 -- less flashy and matches the interior of the G better.

You're not keeping the F900BT anymore? Damnit, I thought that one looked the best since the backlight on the buttons were orange. Which particular problem did you have with the F900BT?

on the f90bt(not sure on the 900bt) you get to control/make the color of the buttons you want.

On paper, the AVIC-F's are kick *** head units... and at today's prices, they are almost too hard to resist. But, Best Buy has these on display and if you just poke around on one for 10 mins, you'll understand the complaints (even with updated firmware). Some owners love theirs and can live with Windows CE quirks, again especially at this price. Or they love to mod/hack everything, and for that these units rule. Other people want it all, but in a more appliance like feel, like an ipod - you may be limited, but whats there does work well. Rather than knock the AVIC-F's, I think you should take a few mins with a display unit. I decided against one personally. If they fix most everything in their 3rd update coming soon, I might revisit the idea of getting an AVIC-F's.
