Radar detector? best one?

Hey guys, I have an '07 G35x sedan and I got a speeding ticket recently. I was wondering what you guys use for radar/laser detectors? Which one is the best for the money? Or which one would you get if money wasn't an issue? Thanks guys.

If you really want the best on the market nothing beats the Escort 9500CI. It even has GPS in it to store the locations of unwanted signals so you won't get false alarms all the time.

The Escort was made by the same person who left the company and made the Valentine One. They're very similar except the V1 adds the arrows and distance meter. Both can be sent in to be updated, both offer two logic modes and both will pick up pretty much the same readings depending on your settings. As for false signals, they both pick up the same depending on your settings too.

Bottom line, you can't go wrong with either. Everything else comes down to personal preferences.

True, but the Valentine is a visor mount where the Escort it a custom installed unit with four separate receivers. There's no way the Valentine unit with everything integrated into one single unit can be as good as a custom installed one from Escort. I have been in the car audio business for 20 years and have sold/installed them all. I have the Escort in my car and it's by far the best unit I've ever used.

I thought you were just pointing out the 9500i... with a retail price over $1500, the 9500ci is just too baller...

But the stealthy size of the thing is very tempting... maybe for my next car...

To answer your question there is absolutely no radar detector that is best for everyone. The V1 is consistantly the most sensitive windshield mounted detector across MOST of the radar bands. It has the best off axis detection which is great for curves. However, this comes at the price of being the most chatty detector available today. I have mine programmed to keep it as quiet as possible, but it's chatty as hell NOVA. I also have a Beltronics STi. The STi has phenominal off axis detection as well and it's KA detection especially 35.5 is on par with the V1 if not slightly behind. The STi's x and k band detection is also stellar, but again falls just short of the V1. The STi's claim to fame however is that it is the only undetectable windshield mounted detector. Important for VA drivers as I have personally seen several Spectre IV's in the NOVA area. Bel has done an outstanding job on the newest firmware. It does a great job of filtering out dual k band auto door openers. For all out sensitivity across all bands however, the 9500ci and the STi-R are the clear winners. Both of these remote mount units use the Bel STi horn and thus both are completely undetectable by any RDD. The STi-R is basically a stripped down version of the 9500ci. The 9500ci's gps functionality makes this one heck of a detector. If you would like to get a ton more info on all radar detectors, head over to www.radardetector.net. That forum has all the RD info you could ever want.

Has anyone tried out the Escort Passport 9500ix? It seems to one of their better Radar Detectors out there.

Another thing is those with Mike's Mount, are you using it exclusively with the V1 or have you hooked up other radar detectors to the mount?

9500ix is a good detector. Sisters bf had one, but sold it for the V1. I ran it in my car for a good week and can certainly say i prefer my V1.

Can you elaborate onto why you prefer the V1 over the 9500ix? I have used the V1 before and there seems to so many false readings.
