Step 1.
Go to a couple shops. Listen to their boards. Find a speaker that you think is well rounded - don't base your decision on price or name.
Step 2.
Narrow down your choices.
Step 3.
Come back ask same question but people's opinion on the speakers you liked the best

All of us are all over the place with what we like, and therefore biased. It's like asking a republican how he like's a democrat's policy on abortion.

That sounds good in theory but what usually happens is you have some sleazeball selling/bs'ing you on whatever has the biggest profit margin, not to mention the acoustics are totally different in a car. I say go with a set of DLS UP6 2way if you can budget around 450. Many G owners (both sedan and coupe) have them and are very satisfied with them.

The guy that posted below my initial post, gave you a reference speaker. the DLS UP6 listen to those and then listen to other speakers in the same price range.
However, I'm not saying buy right away I'm saying do your research, I agree the acoustics are different but if you listen to what a speaker can do in the low, mid and high range you'll have a standard point to go from - hence reference speakers.
You should also keep in mind many of the speakers you'll be hearing will be connected to an external amplifier - not running off factory deck. This will bring out the best of the speaker. if you're just running them off the deck. go with something much cheaper because you'll underpower and blow that speaker likely within the first year or so.

All very good advice in your post. I wasn't trying to say any part of your recommendation was wrong at all (in my first reply to you), but an audio novice at a stereo shop could lead to serious disaster. Just trying to look out for fellow G owners so they don't have to go through the same problems that I did, and what you recommend are very good guidelines to starting down the path of audio upgrades. And I agree 100% , you can never do too much research. measure twice, cut once. If I had done a lot more research before buying, I would have saved myself tons of money, time, and heartache. I dont know where the original thread starter is from, but there should be at least some audio guys at the local G meets so that you can get an idea of how certain speakers will sound in your car. Good luck!

are you going to just replace the speakers for the same ohm as factory or wire up an amp to run the new speakers?

This is just a matter of taste and budget. Any component set from a solid brand will perform at a normal person expectation. If you are going to compete that's something else. Just remember that if you go to a higher wattage of your stock system you will need to rewire the whole car.

Try to get a HU with higher pre-out voltage.

Have you listened to those speakers? If you haven't heard them yet then go listen to them before you buy them. Everyone has different tastes and listen to different types of music, so asking for what speaker to buy doesnt get you anywhere. All we can do is tell you to stay away from certain speakers or recommend similar style speakers.
