Good IPOD Option

I went through a number of ways to use my IPOD in my car, including the Belkin FM modulator & car kit using a pda mount which broke after about 8 months.

I found a product called the TransPod and bought it from my local BestBuy ($99). I live in Southern California and the influx of radio stations caused the Belkin FM mod to be worthless but this one works tremendously, probably because it works on a wider span of frequencies and is digital.

It comes with two stalks, the shorter one allowing the IPOD to line up perfectly flush with the center console. The support for the unit comes from the cigarette lighter and seems solid.

At $99 is is about $150 less than the cost of the ICE contraption, well worth the investment in my opinion.

Re: Good IPOD Option

why not just buy aux input. You get clearer sound and no interference

Re: Good IPOD Option

That was going to be my next move if this didn't work. The FM modulator on this thing is amazingly crisp and clean, nothing like any FM mod I had ever heard before.

I have some other plans for my aux in the future so I was hoping to keep it open for now.

Re: Good IPOD Option

the pac- aux has 2 inputs, and those can be switched between each other simply by pressing the SAT button...

Hey .. Someone want to explain how to connect my iPod into my stereo? I didn't know this was possible without significant mods.

Re: Good IPOD Option

I just purchased the PAC unit from Berk Tech and I think it has to be one of the most useful mods I have ever bought. The cool thing about the PAC unit is that it requires no splicing, just straight plug-n-play and it has remote outs which you can use to turn units on when the input is turned on. I have the AVelectronics unit and was currently using the radio, but that was horrible. Now the sound is great and noticeably louder. Plus, I got rid of that hard switch since it automatically turns the unit on when I switch to the input. I was also able to use the second out to add a plug for my iPod which I purchased a car kit that had a line-out that doesn't have a volume adjust on it. Now I have clean tunes from my ipod and the av unit just got a lot nicer. Honestly, if you want to use ur ipod or have a av unit, it's worth the $90 to get one of these. I'm thinking about getting the SWIX next so i don't have to use the remote that came with the AV unit. I read somewhere that you can program up to six remotes? Does anyone know that for a fact? Because then I can program it for my ps2, avelectronic, and ipod which would be ridiculously convenient.

I believe the SWI-X only allows you to program 6 functions since there are only 6 steering wheel buttons (vol up/down, seek up/down, mode, and power). I think you could program each button from a different original remote if you wanted, but you'd still only get the 6 commands.

If your head unit isn't sat-ready, you can't use the Pac Audio adapter. One option that does work better than an FM modulator or transmitter is a cassette tape adapter. I have one in my '03 sedan and the wire is mostly hidden. The sound quality is very good.

Re: Good IPOD Option

I was all excited about the PAC Audio part until I read this:

"Note: Plugs in at back of radio only. This aux input will not work if the vehicle is already equipped with a satellite receiver. "

Well, I have an XM Sat installed (factory)...i guess im back to the tape deck
