Help! Reception problem after amp install

After installation of my amps, (using the factory head unit), I have a strange noise-interference problem. Satillite and CD sound quality are perfect, engine on or off. So is AM and FM when the engine is off. When you start the car, while in AM a whine gradually starts up....but it is not engine speed dependent. This whine takes perhaps 15-20 seconds to build to a fairly annoying level. In FM, reception just deteriorates when the engine is started. Maybe the AM is just deteriorating signal as well. Any ideas as to what may be causing this???

I think your amp needs to be grounded better. Make sure you have a short ground wire, and it connects to the car very cleanly.

OK, I redid my amp(s) ground, and I still have the same reception problem, same as described above. Any other suggestions?

Make sure nothing else is grounding out in the system. Also, you should always run your rca's on the opposite side from your power cable. Did you run the power cable on the same side of the vehicle as the factory outputs?

Since I am usiong the factory head unit, the RCA's only run a couple of feet in the trunk, and nowhere neer the power.

Re: Help! Reception problem after amp install

hey sonic, which side of the coupe are the audio cables which run to the factory bose amp in the trunk. i need to run a power cord to my new amps and as you suggest, i need to run them on the opposite side to minimize interference. also, where can i get the schematics on how to plug into the stock amp for the rca's to the new amps from the factory amp? thanks IMRACERX not RACERX

Unfortunately, I don't know. I am still planning the system for my G. Maybe someone else might know, I was just giving suggestions for general car audio installs. Sorry

I can tell you for sure that on the sedan, the power is run down the driver's side, along with all of the other wires. There is nothing down the passengers side, but it looks as though Infiniti wanted you to run 1/0 guage wire down that side. It's perfect.
