Anybody replace ONLY the Bose amp? (stock hu +speakers)
In an effort to keep my next car as mod-less as possible
Has anybody kept the stock Bose HU and speakers and upgraded the amp only (03-04)? I've been looking across this forum and the general consensus is that the amp is the worst part of the system, then the speakers, then the HU. I've had my eye on a JL A6450 on OCS that they've got for a great price. 6 channel output, 2 ohm stable, and differential balanced input capable. This should drop in to the stock system just fine, with some additional tuning capabilities and more power.
Enough power to the point where I can get before blowing the stock speakers. If I do end up blowing the stock speakers, I'd probably do a 6.5" component set up front, 6" coaxials in the rear, and either a couple 6.5" subs in the back deck or a small 10" sub. The JL amp should be able to handle all of these new req's just fine also (in worst case scenario that I decide to spend more money of course). Regardless, I want to keep the dash stock looking so the Bose radio will stay there.
So to recap the Q was has anyone replaced only the amp with "moderate" success using the stock Blose speakers? Not looking for earth shattering sound, just a small upgrade.
