Sub amp wiring concerns
Sub amp wiring concerns
Here is the deal, I have 2 Eclipse SW6210 12" 4ohm DVC subs (1500w, 500w RMS per) and an MTX RFL600D amp (600w RMS @ 2ohm, 350RMS @ 4ohm). I wired the speakers to produce a 4ohm load but the output was other than desirable. It hits decent enough but not as much as I know the subs can, so I wired them in parallel for a 1ohm load. The amp does not go into protection mode and the output is much better. Are there any concerns I should be worried about in the long run? I am not getting crazy with the gain right now and have pushed the system moderately hard with no audible issues.
I am not really sure how to check if the amp is clipping or not, but if it's not clipping then your subs are safe. You might be stressing the amp, but who cares, if it breaks it breaks.
Some people recomend connecting a small tweeter in parallel with the sub and if there is sound coming from the tweeter that means the amp is clipping, because clipping results in high frequency noise. If the amp is clipping do not use it because it can destroy your subs.
