Navigation won't stay up
Navigation won't stay up
The G I'm buying has Navigation but you press the button and it comes up and then stay for just a second and then withdraws back into it's hiding place.
How do I fix this?
How do I fix this?
I had a similar issue with my navigation. The fix was the plastic track guides on the sides were loose and preventing the full motion of the screen. So it would try and go up (or down for that matter) and not be able to complete the full motion and back up. Sounds as if your is being prevented from fully extending and senses something is in the way and goes back down. The windows do this too. My fix was to take apart the dash to get to the screen guides, which are exposed so all you need to do is remove the dash trim and tighten the white plastic guides on each side. They are held in place by a phillips head screw. After I tightened them I put a small amount of super glue on one side of the screw head to prevent them from backing off again, but still able to break loose with a screw driver if needed. I also put some grease on the track. Works like new.
Well, as I was messing with it yesterday in the Walmart parking lot, it came up and stayed. You could visably see that it moved up a little further than normal when it stayed up. I played with all it's functions and set the Navigation to where we were going but then when I shut off the car to go in the bank it wouldn't come back up and stay again.
Gonna have to get in there and fix it this week, but at least I know all of it works

Got it to stay up this morning all the way to work.... It's very spiratic. I am waiting on my Ipod Adapter to come in the mail before diving into the dash to fix it.

Hey so Ive been having the same problem. Did A LOT of homework on it including researching the infamous TSB on the unit.
No you dont have to spend that much, nor do you have to go out and do a double din replacement (which would run into the 1k range after you get the dual climate control adapter, steering wheel adapter, and the actual unit)
When the screen pops up, the upper limit is determined by the number of revolutions of the motor, not the actual position of the screen. Over time, this limit seems to go out of adjustment.
To "trick" the limit, while the screen is moving up, quickly press down or tap on the screen so it momentarily moves downward then resumes raising as soon as you let go of it. When done correctly, the screen should raise fully; if you hold it too long, the screen will retract.
Now I dont know how long this will fix it, but mines been out of commission for months. Seems to work when its cold not when its hot, and now finally this year not at all. Did the fix mentioned above and ALL GOOD!
Falling in love with my g35 all over again
(NOTE: I'm going to post this in as many locations as possible since its been years since I've been looking for a fix.)
Thanks!
