Kenwood DNX6140 or Pioneer AVIC-X910BT
Help...can't decide between these 2 units. Both are about same price $1099 from authorized dealers, with Kenwood $100 cheaper due to rebate. I believe the Pioneer is new model this yr. Supposedly last yrs models were not that great as far as NAV, Bluetooth n stuff. Here's what i'm looking for in my head unit as far as importance:
1) Bluetooth - ease of use
2) NAV
3) video playback (.avi, wma, etc) from USB
3) Sound
4) Eq adjustment
Also I guess boot time to load, which I think were issues for these in previous yrs. I think these models are ok.

I'd give the pioneer a little time to breathe on the market as it's a new product, and like you said, their last AVIC F-series was the ultimate fail for a lot of unhappy owners.
The Kenny 6140 is a reliable unit, I own it and it's awesome -- everything works and it works well. You'll get the EQ adjustment, the nav, the bluetooth (not as user friendly as the Pio but it works) and you'll get good sound quality and imaging.
As far as video playback -- i don't use it on my Kenwood -- so i don't know the specs -- i think you could just compare specs vs. specs from the kenwoodusa.com website vs. the pioneerelectronics.com website.
cheers

trim piece?
Are you talking about double din conversion kit? If so, they go on ebay for about $300 for JDM version. Another cheaper kind is sold by metra (?) but heard that it scratches real easy.

for the double din trim kit & ac controls, please get the JDM. Metra = cheap and ugly, and sub-par quality.
I have a kenwood DDX something i forget and I love it. If you get the ipod harness you can play ipod videos, music, movies, etc. You will never neeed another CD again (through Ipod video as opposed to ipod touch/iphone).

will it play video through it's USB for pc based files??? Sales guy did demo me his ipod playing video on the kenwood. I have a Archos and he said it would work through USB but not sure if i'd believe him without researching more.

The AVIC-X910BT is the AVIC-F900BT with the new 3.0 firmware, better iPhone/iPod touch compatability and a new eject button.
Having owned the F-series for several months now, here's my take:
If you're not buying it for the advanced iPod voice control - the "Sync" style ability to just say "Play album xxxxxx", "play playlist xxxxxx" or "Play artist xxxxxx", do not buy it. This is the only feature it has that other, more stable head units don't have.
The navigation is good, the sound quality is good, the responsiveness (of the X and F series with 3.0 update) is good. Everything about it is good, except for the iPod voice control, which is excellent, the boot time, which is poor, and the occaisional crashes (waiting the 2min for complete boot helps a lot in preventing this), which are bad.
If you're not in it for the iPod voice controls, there's more reliable, fast-booting units from other manufacturers (or the AVIC-Z110) that do everything else just as good or better than this unit. There are no voice controls for navigation, which is a downside, as other units do allow voice control of navigation.
