put a woofer in the trunk finally... (pix0rz inside)

*posted this in my regional forum, figured i should share with the folks here too

so i finally got off my ass and finished my speaker box project. putting a 12 in the G trunk wasn't an easy task with the low clearance. it was even harder to get the airspace volume i needed while maintaining a somewhat usable trunk and getting it tuned to a good sounding frequency. i ended up with a total volume of 1.63 cu. ft. and a tuning frequency of ~38 or 39 Hz. making the facade was a challenge too, but i think it turned out ok. here's pics:

ignore the writing, sometimes i get confused

wings!

the reason volume was a problem:

Very nice. Planet audio? Never heard of them but that sub and box look top notch. Do I see wiring for dual voice coil?

thanks. yeah its a dvc. planet audio are pretty good quality. made in the usa and a lot of their tech specs are on point with alpine. i have some alpine type r component sets and they are exactly the same as planet audio's with the exception of some very small variances.

for the box or for everything? i bought the speaker and amp in late 05 and had them in my gti for a couple years. i think i paid $250 for the woofer and $600 for the amp iirc. the head unit is an alpine cda-9885 that i bought brand new when it first came out for $299 that was also "donated" from my gti. i spent about $70 building the box, including the wood, carpet, vinyl and a few supplies like screws and staples, but i had a lot of stuff already cuase i've built quite a few boxes before. other than the box the only thing i had to buy was a wiring kit for the amp. i chose to only run 4 gauge so that was like $90. i'd estimate the total to be around $1350 for everything (including odds and ends not mentioned above).

thanks. it didn't sound too great at first but after the "break-in" period of the box, i'm pretty please with it. sometimes its a little too loud, but i need to get the remote control for my amp so i can turn the gain up or down as i please. the old one was broken when i had everything installed in my gti.

Sweet box. Im going to start working on a ported box next for my two 10s.

Did you happen to save any of the measurements you took, like the angle of the back?

i actually made a cardboard box template so i used that for the angle (i just adjusted my table saw blade's angle up against it) but i do have every other measurement. if you're only gonna run 10" woofers then you won't need to make the "step" that i had to that extends the height in the front. you also will need to adjust for proper air volume specific to your drivers and to accommodate for the appropriate tuning frequency if you intend to vent the enclosure. lmk if you want dimensions though.
