Weak radio antenna

Weak radio antenna
Does anyone else think that the stock radio reception sucks??? I used to have a 300Z and the reception was so much better. Perhaps because it had a big *** antenna in the back. I think the G35 antenna is in the rear window? Anyway to make that a bit stronger? It's really sad.

Re: Weak radio antenna
I think the radio reception is fantastic. It's a lot better then my old car that had a regular antenna and I noticed it works for a lot longer then my friend's saturn when pulling into a parking garage. The g35 uses a diversity antenna that is actually two antennas mounted in the rear windshield and the tuner will automatically select the one with the best reception. This should be as good as a single "big ***" antenna and usually better under typical circumstances. If your g35 is getting bad reception it is more then likely due to something causing interference to your car, not a limitation of the stock hardware. Are you absolutly positive that your reception is worse, have you compared signals between two cars at the same exact place and time? Are you running any electronic devices that may be causing interference in the car or have you ever taken out the head unit or possibly moved the antenna line closer to a power line?
Adding a different antenna probably won't help things. You can get an amplifier for the signal, but that will only help things if you live out in far out rural areas. Your best be it to try and find if something is causing the interference or you have a bad connection somewhere.

Re: Weak radio antenna
I agree. I have a 96 Accord w/ the antenna built-into the rear window, and reception is much better than the G's. But before the 96 honda, I had a 91 accord w/ a regular extending metal antenna that had even better sound. I remember when I first got the 96, i was like 'this reception sucks'. Now I am saying it all over again!

I have Huper Optik Ceramic tint. No metal in that tint. In fact, when I first rolled off the lot, I noticed how bad it was so it has nothing to do with degradation or metal interference. IMO, It just plain sucks. I guess I could switch over to satellite but my 8 minute commute is hard to justify it.

Re: Weak radio antenna
i dont even use fm or am anymore. Im not a big fan of sat radio either. I borrowed my parents suburban with xm and could not find a station that was worth a damn, other than espn radio. I had an altima as a loaner vehicle while my g was in the body shop and that had much better radio reception, and it has its antenna in the window as well.
