Hooking up active crossover using stock Bose radio output

2005 Infiniti G35 Coupe-OEM Bose radio non nav.

Hello everyone,
I am kinda new here and I have searched all over this forum and others including googling the subject but I really don't have a clear answer to my question. Is there a crossover/eq available that the stock head output can be connected to it and work properly? I want to keep the factory head unit but eliminate the factory Bose amp while building my system. Any help/good advise would be much appreciated!

Alot of the links/info regarding similar subjects seems broken/incomplete. I guess I'm a little late to the party!

factory amp is seperate from headunit, so you can tap the wires that send signal to it. (just realize they are balanced). if you can find an amp that can accept balanced inputs, you can just replace the stock amp.

gizmo134,
Your correct about the amp being seperate from the radio. I understand from what has been stated here the Bose amp is primarially to blame for alot of the SQ issues and weird eq/sound, then the speakers. That is why I am wanting to starting with the right crossover/eq. I already have enough amp left over from previous systems to power everything I would want for this vehicle once I get the right piece.
I found the info on this forum labeling the output from the Bose as "Differential Balanced Outputs". I have found a crossover/eq I am intrested in (AudioControl EQX) that accepts "Balanced Inputs". One and the same? I know it may be the same thing just a different way of stating it. Can anyone confirm this or maybe there is someone who has already been down this path for their sound system upgrades? Thanks again!

im pretty sure thats the same thing, and it would work. i dont know that you really need an eq/crossover, but im thinking you want to take the signal from the HU, run it through that and have high/mid outs to the stock speakers, and then another amp for the stock or an aftermarket sub?

Basically you have the idea. I was considering cutting the front input only to the factory Bose amp and rerouting it to a eq/crossover then feed amps that would re-power the front speakers and a sub. By doing it this way I can clean up the sound to the front speakers (replacements) which are the most important and the factory amp would continue to do the job of "rear fill" using the factory speakers. It looks good enough for me on paper, I just hope I can make this plan work without too many issues. That's why I've been looking all over for the answers. Thanks for being willing to help!

i dont know that you really need an eq/crossover,
]if you are doing anything worth doing decent, having an eq is a fantastic idea!! crossovers, come with the amps, but the eq, especially with the stock control of bass and treble, there's nothing better than an eq to make any set up that much better

the audio control unit is fine... when "they" say balanced input, they mean what we are dealing with here. depending on how pricey your speakers, amps, etc are, there are other options on the higher end as well. Zapco makes an incredible unit, the DSP6, not only eq, but crossovers, time alignment, etc... Audison makes the bitone, and that has been rumored to accept balanced inputs, but i have never tried.

these more top end units are especially helpful when you want to go and do a fully active or semi active setup, but without any further info from you, it's pointless to go any further...

so, in short...your audiocontrol unit will do fine, you will just have to spice rca's...

just saw your last post... rear fill from the rears with the stock bose amp would only confuse the front soundstage... I wouldn't do it.

Thanks for the help and advice! I have alot of previous hands on experience installing car audio in various vehicles I have owned over the years, mostly Hondas. None had a high end factory radio, so I would typically start with replacing the headunit and work my way for there. Knowing I have no desire to add alot of additional weight/interior modifacations to this vehicle I am wanting to improve the sound in a scaled back way. If the rear fill idea doesn't fly I won't be surprised!
I waited a few weeks to post here about this. I tried to find the answers without luck. I'm glad I finally decided to post! Thanks again for the help, Merry Christmas to you and yours!

good luck with the install... i have also decided to keep the HU... many people still believe that switching out the deck is going to offer much more sound quality like it did many years ago. Unfortunately, for the most part, this is just not true anymore.

If you do things right, you won't notice a difference between an aftermarket HU and the stock bose HU.... the signal is clean, un-eq'd, and all outputs have a full signal coming out. I can't justify spending 1k just to switch out the deck and still have the same sound as before...

imho, i think you are doing things right... (minus the rear fill part). Good luck, and if you have other questions, feel free to ask away...
