Question Compatiblity issues with OEM Bose

I have an '05 G35 coupe with the OEM Bose system and wanted to replace the head unit with a Pioneer touchscreen head unit. However, the salesman told me that it will not be compatible with the Bose speakers nor the Bose amplifier and that I would have to replace the entire system. Is there anyway around this? I was really looking forward to getting the Pioneer head unit!

Thanks in advance guys

why do you want the HU... If it's because you think it's going to give you a better sound, then i would forget about it. However, if there are other goals in mind, this little swap does bring an interesting caveat... compatibility issues. You can get a harness that plugs into the stock amp, but as you can see one of the other recent threads on the same page, another individual was having problems with early signs of distortion, and ended up replacing the amp and speaks anyway...

first thing i would ask, is if your goal is to improve sound quality, or to provide entertainment, or both. After that, we can help you move forward based on your goals.

Did a 05 Coupe w/Bose a couple weeks ago.
Replaced with a Pioneer AVIC U310BT & Metra 7551 harness. There were no distortion issues that I heard, but I can't recall cranking it all the way up, just to a good, solid listening level. Other head units may not have the same results.

If you want to do the upgrade and not have distortion issues for certain, replace the Bose 5-channel amp when you do the upgrade.

^ what he said. I had mine with Metra harness kept my stock speakers and it sounds 100 times better with a newer HU that's for sure.

The reason I decided to replace the HU is b/c the factory Bose HU decided to die on me. It no longer plays CD's and the stealership told me it'll cost about $500 to replace it!

I'm thinking about going with Pioneer AVH-P4100DVD. So it's my understanding if I get the Metra harness for the Bose amp I should be okay? Or would you guys recommend getting a brand new amp all together? I plan on selling the car in a few months and didn't want to put too much into it right now, otherwise I would've gone with a Navi in-dash setup.

Thanks for you help guys! I appreciate it

^ correct, the only thing you need is the JDM kit, Metra harness and antenna adapter.

The install guy recommended the PAC harness instead of the Metra! He said it was much better.

Where can I get a nice dash kit from?

you are selling the car in a few months, AND putting in a new deck that would cost a pretty penny.... i sure hope that you will reinstall the bad deck before you sell

I'd install a lesser unit if you're getting rid of it.

Pioneer U310BT can be had for about $300, and has detachable touchscreen, nav, bluetooth & ipod compatibility with just the standard iPod USB cable.
