Re: dension ice link... again

So far I'm not aware of anyone who's tried it. The PAC audio adapter definitely works. The PAC unit can utilize steering wheel controls, but so far PAC hasn't made a way to connect the steering wheel control functions to the iPOD (maybe Dension should consider making a link to that!)

The above is true... To get a PAC Aux input to work with steering wheel controls, you need to order the PAC Swi-X unit as well... It'll work like a programmable remote in a sense.

The device you wish to control MUST have IR remote capability.

Right, IR, which the iPOD doesn't have

It would be cool if Dension or PAC made a different version of swi-x that connected to the iPOD instead of IR. I don't know why they haven't yet, given the popularity of iPODs.

Re: dension ice link... again

I just installed the alns1 this weekend and it's working pretty well. It seems to get hung up sometimes if I turn the radio on using the "DISC" button. Other than that - it works and sounds great.

Remember though that the alns1 is only for G35's w/o the sat button (early 2003) and not the those w/the sat button. The PAC unit and alns1 from Soundgate are not the same thing.

"Right, IR, which the iPOD doesn't have "

I have been reseaching this myself. I was really looking forward to the IceLink until the 86'ed it. Right now I was thinking of going the PAC aux input with the SWI-X. In order to get it to work with the IPOD you will need the NaviPOD which it the IR adapter that plugs into the top of it.

Problem is now you have to run the IR repeater from the SWI-X to the front of the NaviPOD and, I guess, tape it there somehow. Not the most attractive install so I was thinking of buying the hard-wired remote as well for the IPOD so I can cut the wire off (which has the plug I would need to go to the top of the IPOD) and splice into the NaviPOD and shove it all under the dash. This obviously is not exactly the cleanest setup either and I have been trying to see if there is a better way.

I sent these guys a few email:

http://www.mp3yourcar.com/

which would be perfect. They say that Nissan/Infiniti is high on there list of projects but no plan have been made yet. Maybe if enough people start asking them about it, they will get something going (hint hint) .

The G35 head units WITH the SAT button also DO support an external CD changer, so unless the ALNS1 does a poor job of emulating a Nissan changer, it should work also. If you connect a CD changer you select the CD button again. The display changes from CD to CD CHNG1. If you connet a SAT device (either the PAC or the actual SAT tuner) you press SAT.

With the Phatbox you can upload different firmware and use it either way, through the very same cable.

Re: dension ice link... again

djrobx, thanks for the info. This is interesting. According to SoundGates web site, it will work with the 04's and make no mention of it having to have SAT or not:

http://www.soundgate.com/products/cd...-infiniti.htm#
(click on "What Fits My Car" on the left)

I have sent both them and the guys at Logjam and email about this. My curiosity is peaked.

rbbigdog: So does everything work? Can you change the tracks and albums on your IPOD with the head unit and steering wheel controls? Does it charge the IPOD? Idealy I would like to hide the IPOD in the glove box or something so it would be great if I can operate it fully from the HU.

Thanks
Ernie

Re: dension ice link... again

My bad w/the sat button.

It's working pretty well. So far the only problem seems to be that if I turn on the radio by hitting the CD button, the radio will get confused and not play from the aux in. To fix, do one of two things.... 1) turn radio off and turn back on via other button or 2) Don't turn radio on w/CD button (doctor it hurts when I do this.....)

I spoke w/Soundgate today and they said that sometimes the adapter can miss the timing of the data it needs to send and the radio get's confused. It's really not a big problem, just a minor inconvience - especially for me since I don't have the SAT button option.

When I have some more time, I'll post the pic's of my install. I originally had the Iriver IHP-120 playing through the tape adapter. Now I have the Neo Car Jukebox from ssiamerica which is a permanant install.

Re: dension ice link... again

rg: Actually, it looks as though you were correct, the Soundgate will not work the radio's that have SAT input. This is according to both Logjam.com and Soundgate. Soundgate says they are working on something but it wont be available for a while.

I have not seen the back of my head unit in my 04. I guess it does not have a cd changer control input? That is the only reason I can see why it wouldnt work. Really sucks....

Re: dension ice link... again

The back of radio CD Changer and SAT tuner connectors are the same thing. It's certainly possible that there are bugs in the ALNS1 firmware that manifest themselves only on the SAT-enabled head units, but the SAT-enabled radios definitely support connecting a CD changer through the port normally used for the SAT tuner.

If you buy a Nissan CD changer, you can plug it right into the SAT prewiring in the trunk. SAT tuners and CD changers use exactly the same cable, on both ends.

Nissan radios that need both an external CD changer and SAT do not have two separate ports. Instead, a second cable is used that connects the SAT tuner to the CD changer through a secondary port on the back of the SAT tuner. However, the G35 Coupe radio does not support running both a SAT tuner and a CD changer. You can only have one or the other.
