Console Display going nuts after car wash

I had washed my car earlier today with a bucket of soap. I didn't do anything out of the norm. Washed it, waxed it, cleaned the interior, etc. After a few hours of letting it sit, I started my car, the console display where the climate control shows, was acting crazy, something sorta like in the movie "The Ring". Any one experience this too? Anyways, after an hour or so driving, it stopped. When I had first saw this, I was really pissed off. I'm not sure, but seems that water somehow contacted with electronic circuits. Any body have ideas, or experience the same crap?

Re: Console Display going nuts after car wash

Mine does that almost every day. I'm in San Diego where the evenings are cool and ultra-humid. It seems to only occur with there is a lot of damp air inside the cabin or there's been a lot of water in the air.

The other day, I parked over this drainage area (the drain was in a parking lot and a hill full of shrubs drains into it) and it was very sunny. So I get in the car, and turn the AC on. WHOOSH out comes the Amazon Rain forest... The windshield fogged up (remember it's like 85 degrees outside). The display freaked. The AC turned on to MAX, and I go hmm odd, it's in the middle of the day.

So I drive out, and all of a sudden, the AC restarts, and the CD Player starts playing. All the while the HVAC display is having a epileptic spaz attack.

Thank god the volume was at 3 or I'd have made mess.

I tried going to the dealer twice about this. They can't reproduce it, don't want to reproduce it and won't touch the car if they can't reproduce it.

Now get this.. I live near Mission Valley where it gets foggy at night. The dealership is on a Mesa where it's dry as heck. They'll NEVER be able to reproduce it. And this pissed me off to no end.

I'm going to try and record a video of the freakyness just to prove to Infiniti and the dealers (and anybody else) that there's a freaky thing going on.

keep an eye out for my reply and a link to the MPG of the glitching display.

There is a known problem with a circuit board in the center console. My dealer ordered the fix for me already. The dealer should be able to replace this no problem.

It happened to me about 5 or 6 times until I figured out what was going on. Do you happen to have any non factory unit drawing voltage installed? I had my radar detector wired directly to one of the fuse. It turns out that my radar detector was drawing inconsistant voltage. So I used the different fuse to hardwire the detector. This scary symptom never showed again.

Yeah - this sounds like the circuit board problem. I've never experienced this display malfunction, but when I brought my car in for the 7500 mile checkup and oil change, they replaced my circuit board without me even asking. It would be nice to get a listing of Change Orders on the vehicle so you can inform your dealer of *exactly* what you're after. The dealer should really already know anyway, IMO. Anybody know where we can get a list of recalls/change orders for the G35?

TPark, nah I have no aftermarket radar detector or anything of that nature installed. Everything is stock. Hmmm this sucks a nut, because I just bought my G like a month ago. I'm nearing my 3k breakin, will bring it in for service.

I have posted my movies regarding this problem.

If you're bandwidth limited (Dial-up, ISDN, wireless), please download the WMV8 version.

Jimmy_G, is this what you saw (or may still be seeing)?

Re: Console Display going nuts after car wash

burble it definitely is dude. Exactly the same crap I get. I still get it every so often, even after weeks without washing. Dude, my circuits are screwed. As per markrief was saying it's a known problem, and I will bring it to my dealerships attention if they don't know wth I'm talking about. All I know is it best be a fix, and not just another new replacement. Nearly a 40g car and electronics get easily whacked, oh hells nah, love the car, is it too much to have the bomb car of year without freakin out on me?
