Using SAT for something else

Like a lot of other people here (almost everyone actually) I have a Coupe with an SAT radio button which does nothing. That's fine with me because I'm not interested in SAT radio (at least, not right now).

However, I *AM* interested in hooking up a small computer in my car to play MP3's, movies, GPS, etc. etc.. This obviously isn't anything new, since many people have already done it.

However, I am wondering if there is a way to use the SAT radio connection to hook up the audio output from the computer. Thereby having a nice clean dedicated selectable audio connection instead of going the cheesy FM modulator/Tape Deck cartridge thingy.

What do people think? Possible? Anyone have info on how I can do this? Schematics?

Re: Using SAT for something else

I was asking that same question not too long ago. Haven't seen any replies, yet. It would be nice to rig up some RCA jacks and use the SAT button as an AUX port. If you find anything, please let us know... you're not the only one looking.

Does anyone know if the ESM manual has enough information in it for someone with a little electronics background to attempt such a project?

I have the ESM and while I'm glanced through it, I didn't look closely enough to see if it had enough info. Plus, it's been about 15 years since I took basic electronics in college... (oops, just dated myself... oh well..)

It'd be pretty funny if you could rig it up to inject NOS.

"No, not *that* button!!"

Re: Using SAT for something else

Wow Great Topic!!!!

Like many of us here I am sure, I have had this question for AGES, I have an iPod & near 700 songs on it, & presently use it in my Coupe with a cassette adapter, but there really is RFI, especially at night or in damp weather.

The SAT button would be flawless, & to this extent, since I have had my Coupe from 11/09/03 I have searched, & searched & called, & talked, & looked & hunted.

I can not turn a darned thing up. I have spoke with the dealer (parts/service), my sales guy (he had a friend who owned a stereo installation business in Los Angeles, he took the question to companies he talkes to in trade at the CES show!! NOTHING!!!!) I have looked online, phoned specialty stereo shops, hell I even called Crutchfield!!!! NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!

If Inifiniti can't make good on a kit for getting the promised satellite kits should we choose them, the LEAST they should do is come up with a way to make that an AUX / mini jack input!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If anyone has heard of anyone doing it, or knows how/where, please do post it.

That one thing alone bugs me more than not having tinted my windows yet!!!! Hahahahhaa!!!

Hmm, well, I looked through the ESM and it doesn't have the required information. It has some basic schematics of the audio system, but they're not detailed enough to be helpful.

I also have the PDF for installing SAT radio system, but it is also not detailed enough to help.. It probably will come down to some experimenting with a multimeter... :/
