w6 vs. w7

one of my buddies wants to put either a w6 or a w7 in his coupe. i know alot about car audio but i know little to nothing about JL's line up. i know the w7 is everyones favorite but is there a huge difference between the w6 and the w7?? i think hes going to go with a 10" for price purposes.

also what is a good amp to tag along to it besides J/L?? would a Rockford Fosgate 800.1 or 1000.1 be any good? because they are much cheaper then the J/L amps.

as you can tell he wants the cheapest way out but either a w6 or w7. where the best place to get them also? thanks alot

The w6v2 will be fine and have more than enough bass for the coupe. It will be smaller, lighter, and not require as much power. Anything with a low pass filter and 200-500 watts, rms will power it fine. Try ebay or subwoofersetc.com.

Re: w6 vs. w7

The W6 is a great sub and shares alot with the W7... if your looking for a loud SPL Sub the W7 is where its at... I heard many times that the W6 is a better sounding sub. If you want a good amp, your going to need almost 500watts RMS EACH to get a W6 to really hit hard. So a JL 1000.1 is a GREAT amp for this setup. Im building a system now with with 2 JL W3V2's 10" and running JL 500.1 to power them. The W3V2 is plenty for most people not entering competitions and the such and can be nicely run on a single 500watt amp.

If money is an object, I say u go with the W3V2's and a JL e Series Amp

A few bucks more to toss in and get a JL Splash Amp (500.1)

BALLA $$ 2 W6's with a JL 1000.1

Oh and if weight matters at all to you... the W7 is around 45Lbs , its a HUGE sub

Re: w6 vs. w7

The w6 says its a dual voice coil sub. Can that be hooked up to a 5 channel amp if the other 4 channels are being used for the front/rear? I thought you would have to use something like a two channel amp instead of mono since there are two sets of terminals.

Re: w6 vs. w7

thanks for the replys, i just stopped at Tweeter and talked to them about it. i think hes gona go with a W7 not sure 10" or 12" yet. also the tweeter guy said that a 800.1 Rockford would be perfect for them. now the 800.1 runs 800 watts at 2ohm but the w7 is 3ohm so ill get less power. do u guys trust getting the w7 over the internet? because they are much cheaper " 500" compared to tweeter "750

Re: w6 vs. w7

get a JL amp... wont matter the ohm rating since the JL amps use Regulated power.... it could be 1.5 - 4 ohms and the JL amps will still put out the same amount of RMS without all the heat. Rockford amps are toys compared to a higher quailty amp like a JL. Take a Look at PG amps also

Re: w6 vs. w7

At 3 ohms, you'll get around 600 watts rms. That'll run the 10 or 12 just fine. I had a 12w7 running off a jl 500/1 that was putting out over 700 watts. It was enough to punish my kidneys. Risk/reward on the internet/retail. Call around town. You should be able to find one around $600-$650 from an authorized dealer. It just takes some digging.

kroams,
you won't have any problems. The DVC is wired into the sub itself. it only requires a single channel of output from your amp.

Re: w6 vs. w7

The 'slash' series is the top of the line JL while the 'e' series is more of their budget line. Both are very good. The slash has some additional features such as RIPS. I forgot what it stands for but it deals with the power consumption and output. jlaudio.com will have all the information you need on the differences.

Re: w6 vs. w7

RIPS will output the same power regardless if your speakers are 1-4ohm. It automatically detects the ohms of the speaker.

Re: w6 vs. w7

it also includes the ability to put out the same amount of power whether it's getting 11-14 volts of juice. Most other amps will shut down or give a fraction of their output below 12.

Re: w6 vs. w7

The W6 is my choice hands down. W6 sounds better, its more efficient, takes up less space, and it cost less. I have done comparos and its one of my favs.

Re: w6 vs. w7

Be careful buying online they do not warranty anything you buy from anyone whos not a dealer, and saving $100 is not worth the warranty.
