The problem will come back guys. A bunch of us have had this problem. Only way to fix it is to get a new radio or do the double din conversion. It gave me an excuse to upgrade to a DVD/Nav unit. I just did mine over the weekend myself and its not hard at all.
I had the same problem after installing my Ipod adapter. I was able to find a solution in the forums a while back but I can not seem to find it now. Anyways. I have an 03 coupe. and had the exact same problem after my installation.
So, I don't know what year you have but what triggered my a/c to go crazy and my lights to turn off on the radio console was the flat orange looking wire that you have to lock into place on the back of the radio. You should know what I am talking about if you have taken your entire radio out, Its a flat wire about maybe a 1/2 inch wide and you slide it in and then press the plastic locking piece into the radio.
Well, apparently you have to make sure it is VERY secure otherwise it will make everything go crazy. I took my radio out and got tape and fiddled around with that flat wire until my radio and all the lights stayed on. then I taped it into place. I did this last year and it has worked fine ever since.
Or, you could just replace your system if you have the funds. Good luck!
