iphone/ipod connection to aftermarket radio?

I have an old alpine headunit, i think the model is CDA-9833. I would like to be able to connect my iphone to it digitally (through the dock connector) and not analog through the headphone port.

Will the OEM nissan ipod connection kit allow me to do this or is it only meant for the OEM radio?

I am tired of burning and swapping out cd's, and I would love to be able to play the songs off my iphone that is connected digitally to my headunit in my car. If someone knows the best way to do this. Please let me know.

Mono price cable and the alpine aux input dongle if your head unit supports it.

Something like this.

You just need to convert from 3.5mm back to rca or search for apple dock connector to rca.

My buddy is using this

Or this, but not sure on quality

Absolutely, positively not. It'll only work with an OEM radio.

It'll still be an analog signal, as few headunits will actually do the decoding when there's an iPod to do it for them, but it'll be line-out through the dock with one of these, yielding higher quality sound:

You have to check what the connectors say, however, most connectors do charge the iphone

Not sure if it works with your headunit but might want to look into the Alpine kce-422i ipod cable. I have one for sale if youre interested.

but what about the iphone? i know they use the same connectors, but certain connectors only are 100% compatible with ipods only. since i will be using my iphone most of the time, i want to be sure that it will charge the iphone.

heard lots of bad things about the PAC cables, people complaining about poor quality and shorted out after a month of use. So I'm not sure I wanna go this route, unless PAC updated their cables and resolved all the nasty issues.

Most people don't post a review when it works as advertised.

PAC's only real business is in adapters and harnesses, and I haven't had any problem with them, quite the contrary. I'm sure they can tell you if it charges an iPhone if you call them, their customer support is quite good.

Plus it's like $20.

If it does not charge, you may need a step-down plug that goes in between the the ipod and the plug. Scosche makes on for about $20. Changes 12v charge to 5v.
