to replace that piece? My guess is ~$30. maybe $40. Not so much that you'd cry if you messed up, but enough that you don't want to keep messing up.
if you decide to cut, always remember, cut too little at first... You can always cut more later, but you can't really put any back once you've gone too far.
My suggestion, get the dremel bit:

to do the initial cutting. I used a sanding bit to do the finishing touches on some cutting I did, but there may be a better way.

Yes I have that bit. I know to do little cutting first. No the shifter won't block the screen for anyone sitting in the front. For the back that's a different story but I don't really care too much for the back. I don't have people sitting in the back of my car for long drives where they need to see movies or anything. My hand won't hit it while shifting either. I think I'm going to give it a try in two weeks.
