Help with JDM dd

hey guys this is my first post and i need a little help. Later today i am going to pick up an 05 sedan, without nav. I want to put in a pioneer avh head unit (double din) but i have the rosewood trim. i know that jdm only makes the aluminum finish so im not sure what to do.

i thought about getting the center piece from wooddash.com, but even if i am able to trim the plastic i dont think it will come out well.

its my guess that the 4 buttons in between the ac controls and the cd slot are cut out from the wood dash piece so it wont be a solid piece all the way across (might look like 4 half circles when i trim it down, although i could be wrong and i just might fit)

any other solutions?

you can't cut the existing trim due to the circuit board being one piece behind there.

I would get the JDM one and try to find an aftermarket wrap for rosewood

thats what i meant, wooddash.com has the overlay but not for the double din, only for the original piece. im probably going to purchase 2 overlays and start cutting away

get rid of the trim all together then...

wood grain is for cadillacs and jaguars imho

is it removable? thats like 20+ pieces, and if its not removable it rather not spend another 300 on stick on plastic for that many parts. around the head unit it one thing, but switches, mirrors, controls, steering wheel...it'll start to peel in "high traffic" areas

it should peel off.

you'll need some adhesive remover to clean off the old glue but I dont think these cars ever had wood grain from the factory...

you might be right, i read somewhere that its a dealer option....that would be a huge relief, if not its back to the drawing (or cutting) board. i will find out later today, thanks

Search for "Wood" in my ddin shopping/resource sticky, there's a link to somebody using the JDM DD a/c controls with the OEM (non-dd) woodgrain trim that he cut a DDin-sized hole out of. Ended up looking fine.

I'd post the direct link, but the slow-load bug is present while I'm here at work so, it'd take me about 10min to find.

You could also try something from here:
http://www.customautotrim.com/vinyl/...rain_vinyl.htm
They have a rosewood vinyl, and you can get a sample for like $3 to check the match, even if it's not perfect, if you wrapped the shifter trim and DDin trim, I doubt anybody would notice the difference with other parts of the car.

i dont know if im daring enough to chop up the factory piece though, i can never go back...i think im going to take my chances buying the wood dash overlay and trimming it to fit the jdm dd. but that guy did a nice job on his stock piece

If you're worried about keeping the stock piece, search a little in this forum, there are a few that went all-aluminum and may be willing to part with their old OEM trim piece.

Nothing like having a spare to modify, in case everything goes south.

That's why I said to check people who've mentioned wood in double din replacement and PM'ing them directly.
