Advice to make my double-din setup look cleaner?
Well, it serves it's function. Now I'm trying to work on the form. The problem is, the center speaker I have is only .5 din, and is a tad skinnier at the sides than a standard din device. I can't move it into the nav-less cubby since my 7" screen will go there.

What's your budget? I would say your center speaker is limitting your options. How about putting getting a double din unit like the kenwood 7015. I think the kenwood unit looks pretty clean. Almost OEM. Or how about a 1-din unit with a flip out screen like avic-n1 or alpine that covers that area when open.

2 Possible easy ways I can think of.
1. Buy some speaker cloth and make a single full 1 DIN speaker cover to cover up both the speaker and the open area.
2. Buy a sheet of aluminum from home depot, cut it to size, then brush it with a wire brush or rough sand paper for a finished look.
Good luck.

Honestly I would get rid of the center speaker. It screws with you hearing the music in stereo. I see the value of a center channel in a home theater system but not in the car because of the seating and listening position in both cases. Unless you are going to sit on the center console to watch a movie in 5.1 surround sound ;-)

I'm not a hard core audiophile. I tuned my setup so the "sweet spot" is the driver's seat. So I have distinct separation when listening in 5.1 mode. It might be gimmicky for some, but I love it too much to lose it. Especially live music CDs and electronic music. Pro Logic II owns me :P

That's cool that you have the 5.1 processor in you car. I'm not hatin' just sharing my opinion.

RDaneel,
Thanks for the compliment. I got one guy that wants to ship his car from Houston, Texas to me for a system. One from the East Coast would definitly be my record distance ;-)
All the smart people that are developing all the dvd to nav, xbox and no nag units are out there with you.
Thanks again,
Rudy

There is a half din DVD player due out soon. I'd wait till that's out then reconfigure the dash. Radio on top, speaker, then DVD on bottom? CES is in January so the half din will probabaly ship in March.
