How to fill an ugly single-DIN space after a beautiful done double-DIN conversion?

I prefer an external solution that doesn't involve taking the trim down.

I've successfully completed my DDIN conversion from stock to a 1-DIN unit. The missing 1DIN space looks crass. What options do I have? I don't mind having just a piece of plastic plugged in securely from outside just to cover it up. (I'm too lazy and dread the fact that I have to pull the whole darn thing down if I need to access it from within, and hence a push for an external solution)

Any externally pluggable filler panels, cup holders, cellphone holders, bread toasters will do.

THX,
IGGY

The time you waste trying to do something external-only is probably going to be twice as long as just removing the trim, supergluing a blockoff plate or putting a single-din cubby hole, to say nothing of the likely inferior result.

look around the house, I bet you will find something to accomplish your task. A friend of mine has done this, he found a piece of black sheet style plastic, just from looking around the house, garage... cut to fit, and place it in.

I'm sure you can do find something, just gotta look. haha you already have the right idea.

As for options, you can get a single-din EQ or just a cubby like this:

I can't say for certain that the parts used in that install are the ones I list in this thread, but results should be similar:

I'm going to be using a single din in my install, I'm not really happy with any current double din units. What I was planning on doing was getting a piece of smoked acrylic and moving the head unit to the center of the hole and trimming the headunit in acrylic . I already bought another bracket that the radio bolts to and just need to drill some holes for mounting in the middle. When my headunit gets back from being modified I plan on starting a build thread, be on the look out.

Will do.. thanks!

I dint like any DDINs myself, hence went for a single one. But I should have been more weary when putting it back together without caring for the extra hole. Now I pay.

On Ebay there is a stamped sheetmetal piece with three 2" holes for gauges to cover the g35 to single din hole. $15

Get an air suspension and put the controls below the radio
