Newbie question about software/maps update

I just got a '08 G35 S. I love the car so far! Anyway, I'm trying to update the display/Nav. I see there are map updates you can buy, but I'd imagine there have been software updates since this car came out (says I'm on the '07-'08 version). Is there such a thing as a software update or maybe this is bundled in with the map updates? Can someone please clarify this for me? If there are software updates, are they available somewhere?

Also, at least on my software version, there is no way that I can figure out to quickly scroll through my ipod? I have a ton of stuff on there and if I want to get to the bottom of a list, hitting the down arrow 100 times is very annoying (since it always defaults to the top of the list). There is a little scroll bar looking thing on the side of display that seems it would be perfect for functionality similar to the ipod, where you can quickly scroll through the list by letter. Is there something I'm missing or is this just a missing feature?

Thanks a lot!

Going to the appropriate forum would probably help you get an answer.
