RUNNING WIRES to trunk? Help plz!

Howdy.

I need to run a VGA cable, 2 coax cables, and 2 3.5 mm stereo cables to the trunk from the center console (installing a LCD screen).

Any way to run under center console (since I will have it out anyway), the straight back, under rear carpet, under rear seat and right into trunk towards the location of the BOSE amp?

Anyone with tips on how best to run wires back there. From reading other posts for audio, I understand that there is a groove for wires under the passenger side carpet near the door sill, but that seems a roundabout way to get to the trunk and to the opposite side no less.

Any pointers would be appreciated.

Thanks!

well if you dont want to pull out the panels and carpet... you can always just cut a small incision where the front-right bolt it for the driver's seat. The wires would all feed from the LCD/front console down and will be exposed near the driver's seat front bolt, run them back under the seat and under the rear-mat, then on the left side of the rear seats, behind the seatbelts and to the trunk.
Its hard to explain, you should just follow your instincts

I am not sure on how to pull out the panels to remove any carpet though for a more 'professional' touch

Funny I was just doing this until midnight last night at the shop. Take the rear seat out, this is easy, pop the two clips in the front of the seat bottom and pull it out, then the two 15mm bolts on each seat back they are on the bottom. Fish the wires from the center consol to under the seat under about a foot of carpet, right along the hump. Then you can zip tie to the existing wires and follow them right into the trunk.

Just make sure you zip tie in the console realy well and neet and make sure all your wires are away from all the moving parts in there.

Excellent. Thank you. I will try to take the rear seat bottoms out. Do I really need to take the seat backs out? Shouldn't I just be able to "see" into the spare tire well at that point?

I was working on a sedan last night and I could not see through. If you are doing a coupe just take out the bottom and see if you can.

There is an opening into the trunk on the driverside also.

Just make sure that the wires are not pinched by the seat bottom when it's reinstalled. The easiest path to the trunk it to remove the moulding at the rear of the rear door, (right next to the seat.) This moulding covers up the channel as it goes from the base of the seat bottom to the access hole to the trunk. There is a wiring channel hole on each side of the car, one located just to the outside of the each of the top corners of the rear seat. It is almost large enough to put your whole arm through, certainly no wire snaking necessary. You may find that the trunk side access is filled with a block of foam rubber...just temporarily remove this to run your wires.

Ok,

Embarrased to say I am having trouble getting the rear seat off. Seems like its attached to the rear center console. I am pulling up pretty hard - afraid it's gonna bend in two, but it's not popping off.

I have the 5AT coupe prem pkg with Bose and reclining rear seats. What gives? Time to research the posts...

Very kind of you - unfortunately I am in NC not CA. Too bad for me. I saw the pictures of it - the whole rear seat plus center console connected with two little clips. I think I just need to find the right spot - will try again. This time it comes off or it breaks!

Whohoo - got the rear seat off. With the pic of where the clip is from another thread, I went at it with zeal and it finally popped off.

There is *no* clearance between the body and the center "hump" to run any significantly sized wires. Looks like the passenger side well is definitely the way to go.

Got my 7" x 7" x 2" P4 carputer put together and running on my desk at the moment - install of the touch panel in the HU and carputer in the trunk this weekend - will take as many pics as I can.
