Re: SATELLITE RADIO
I have seen a few posts from people who use an aftermarket satellite turner instead of the OEM one. The problem is the quality. The aftermarket tuners send the signal to the head unit in one of two ways. It either goes through a cassette tape adapter, or the satellite tuner rebroadcasts over FM (and you tune the head unit to the FM station).
Neither of those methods can get the same signal quality as the direct link from the OEM tuner to the head unit. If you use a cassette adapter, you also have a wire running to the cassette deck.
On the plus side, with the OEM unit, you can change channels with the steering wheel buttons.
Most people spend the ~$300 for the OEM unit.

Re: SATELLITE RADIO
i have the xm roady in conjunction with the pac. the quality is great but not as loud as oem most likely due to the pac. so basically audio level 12 on oem would be equivalent to say 15 using my setup. i would not go this route if you were to play it via fm modulation or a tape deck. sound quality is awful.
i purchased the oem satellite kit through grubbs and was very happy with it. i opted for the xm roady because i had to use the stock satellite connection for my avelectronics box. it also came with a free home companion setup so i can listen to it virtually anwhere that has a set of speakers and an outlet. im not limited to just my car, so i think its a good purchase just for mobility.

I use the Roady2 with the cassette adaptor for now. It sounds pretty good. I have it secured with a venbt mount - pics to follow

I have the Clarion Sirius receiver and car kit with the PAC AAI-NIS in the G35 Coupe; a car kit and directly connected to the Pioneer head unit in my 300ZX; a home kit for my home stereo system; and finally a home kit connected to my office stereo system at work, so I can get Sirius whenever I want and listen to the NFL games if I have to work on Sunday. With the Nissan OEM receiver, you can only listen to it in your G.

Dear message boards,
I am trying to decide between XM and sirius, and I wanted opinions: Do you think both will be around for another 6 years? I'm planning on keeping my new G35 for at least that long. Also, has anyone found a place to get a cheaper OEM receiver than Grubbs?
Thanks,
Jason

There was a recent article in the Wall Street Journal voicing concerns that Sirius way overpayed for Howard Stern. If the listeners do not flock to him, Sirius will be in serious trouble.
However, I would still get the service that you like the most. Even if Sirius does go belly-up, it is doubtful that they would liquidate with the service canceled to subscribers. Most likely, they would reorganize or be sold to a third party.
