Front Right polk tweeter blow, swapped out, new one blown too
Front Right polk tweeter blow, swapped out, new one blown too
Is there a problem in our wiring or anyone else have this happen?
I have a 05 bose, I swapped the rears to pol 650s and the front to the pol 651 components.
I thought since the tweeters didnt have any brackets, I chopped the stock tweeters out of it and used it to brace in the new tweeter.
After a while I think it was rattling, so I tightened the sccrwed and went away. It slowly came back and it would crack only on Base. I would turn up the treblle to max and no cracks , only when base hits.
I ended up try it in my hand not on the door and it still cracked on high volumes,
I Figured it was just bad, so i bought a new set and with in a day it started to do the same thing, Starting to make me think
the speaker it self isnt bad and/or something in my wiring is destorying it?
any thoughts?

If you didn't install the crossover right, or the crossover failed, it could be sending frequencies at power levels high enough to damage the tweeter. There should be a high-pass filter of some kind in place in order to prevent bass from getting near that tweeter.
hmmm,
So maybe thats my bad, I have no cross over. LOL
I had it in but the volumes were stupid low, espeically when I set it on +3db,
I thought that the factory bose already has a built inc ross over so i took it out.
Am I wrong on that?
ALso wouldnt both sides do the same? Do I need different components that may work better?

Nope, factory bose uses a tiny little bass blocker at the bose tweeter to protect it, there's no real crossover at all.
No real reason why one side would blow before the other, could just be the balance of the music you listen to.
