Looking for opinions/feedback on an idea I had for my upcoming stereo build.

Hey everybody. Here I am with my first real post on the forum!

I am soon going to start a build for my 05ip coupe and I wanted to bounce an idea out there for the gurus to give me feedback on.

My build will consist of mostly JL audio equipment-factory head/clean sweep, XR-650 components for the front stage(new-old stock was for my previous vehicle but never got in), 1 10 or 12w6 sub, and a JL audio HD900-5 to power it all.

Here's the question. I know the rear deck takes 6x9 speakers, and I was wondering if getting some midbass 6x9 speakers to fit back there would work well with the subs. My thought was to have the crossover set relatively low on the sub so it only does the real heavy lifting. What do u guys think? Would a meaty set of midbasses in the rear deck help with making the sub bass cleaner? Sorry for the long winded question....

..another JL setup. Oh joy.

How low were you looking at crossing the sub?

IMO and with most people's opinions, the rear 6x9 is pointless if you are going to get a sub. The 6x9 speakers will only mess with the sounds produced by the 10" or 12" sub, not compliment it.

^ This.

Get good components up front and a good sub in the back and you're set.

Thanks for the replys. I ban never heard a setup like this before and was not sure if it would sound ok or not. I am not too proud to not follow good advice so therefore no more mentioning the mids... So the setup will be bi ampd front stage with the old xr series components and the sub in the back. This won't be a competition level setup.. nothing flashy and sub box will be a simple sealed box that can be removed when necessary.

I don't know what to say about it being jl lol. I got adeal on the components.... And I have never had a matched system before so I guess the marketing has worked on me.

I imagine the crossover will be 80 Hz or so. I'm not sure how low the components will go. This is where the midbass delusion crept in

Their are much better components for a better price... But since you already have them Id suggest:

Power the fronts with the amp
Power the rear side panels with the HU
Remove the 6x9's
Rest of the amp to the sub

"Matched Components"? Speakers have a + and -, there's no other special communication wire that makes them sound better when they're the same brand. Good speakers recreate the waveform sent to them well, and good amplifiers increase the power without altering that waveform, that's all there is to it.

^ This too.

I tried playing with my fader from front to back with my Pro60se's in the front and some other speakers in the rear. With the sub on, I cannot tell if the rears are powered or not, and even with the sub off, I have to listen specifically for a change as the fader is moved.

Save the money and leave rear speakers out of it completely.

I am a lover/hater of JL audio. The products are decent but what I love the most about them is the resale factor. They are extremely easy to sell and if you do a good job finding deals then when it is time to sell you should be able to make a little or break even. With other products like Hertz, Diamond, PPI, focal and other brand the market is very small. Anyone and everyone has heard of JL audio and will be ready to fork over their cash. For the money you can buy better items but when you get ready to sell them you might take a larger hit in depreciation versus JL audio. When I sell my high end brands or DIY brands i always sell them on forums but JL audio craigslist fool will pick them up as quick as iphones.

Yep the rear sides won't be used at all. Would bi amping the components overpower them?

That will let me use all the channels of the 5 channel amp I intend to get. Next decision will be about matting to minimize buzz and rattle.
