Auxiliary input whine help (iPod)

I connected my SoundGate ALNS1 aux input converter to the aux input jack in the back of the bose system (no sat button), the constant power lead from the converter to the thick yellow wire from the radio harness, and the switched power lead to the red wire of the 12v outlet in the armrest. Then I used the ICELink cradle/cable to connect my iPod to the converter. Everything hooked up fairly easily, but I'm now hearing alternator whine coming from my right speakers (only when using the auxiliary source, doesn't happen with the radio or the regular cd changer).

First off, is that thick yellow wire from the radio harness a constant source? The iPod isn't charging when the car is off. Also, could tapping into that power wire be giving me the whine I'm hearing?

Any thoughts?

I had the same problem. Unfortunately, the ICELINK kit does not provide a ground wire which I believe would eliminate the whine.

I returned it shortly after installing it because of the whine and other operational problems.

Good luck,

I had alternator whine when I hooked up an XM Roady in my wife's truck to the AUX IN. I added a "ground loop isolator" to the mini-stereo headphone jack between the Roady and the receiver and that took care of the problem. The only drawback I noticed was a slight decrease in volume. Radio Shack carries them: http://www.radioshack.com/product.as...t%5Fid=270-054

The only problem is that there is no mini-jack or RCA cables.

Maybe a power filter or alternator noise suppressor?

hi guys. i dont understand. i thought the ICELINK was not compatible with our cars (2k4 6mt [my car]). perhaps that is why the 'alternator whine' is happening? that may lead to a possible 'short' in your electrical system', regardess if you properly ground the audio connections.

if you want my advise, i would remove all together that installation and use the PAC AAI-NIS (mine should arrive this week). i will be installing mine this weekend.
i'am just expressing my concerns.

BTW Infiniti will NOT honer your warranty if they find that what you installed was i direct result of the alternator issue.

My g35 does not have a sat ready radio, so the AAI-NIS will not work.

This is true. I am a dealer/re-seller for Dension... IceLink is not compatible with our Infiniti's/Nissan's. I have thier latest product docs sitting here in front of me... The 2005 catalog has absolutely no mention of Nissan or Infiniti.

I spoke to thier corp about this sometime last year, and they explained to me that they had way too many issues with a test model they had made up. I think that they just scrapped the plans...
